I was always scared about Jack teh Ripper whilst visiting London.

I'm glad everything is okay now!

In all fairness I read this earlier today outside of the Daily Mail on my UK World & News app. (although, for all I know they are affiliated).

Re: Jack the Ripper finally solved. ...

TL;DR -- a shawl purportedly linked to one of the Ripper victims (Catherine Eddowes) has DNA from Eddowes blood and DNA of Aaron Kosminski, a Polish immigrant who has long been one of the chief suspects.

However, the shawl has not been properly handled over the years, and the DNA results haven't been peer-reviewed, so critics are saying there is a very good chance the DNA is a result of after-the-fact contamination.

Re: Jack the Ripper finally solved. ...

Someone in the comments mentioned the author of the article also happens to have a book coming out, so this seems more of a promotional thing trying to bring attention to this as fact.

It's got multiple cum stains from multiple people. Back in those days prostitutes didn't clean themselves up like they do today.

She was a prostitue. There was probably 'DNA' from half of London on that shawl.

Re: Jack the Ripper finally solved. ...

It seems more like a way to promote this new book than truly convincing evidence. Someone a decade ago claimed to have DNA evidence for Jack the Ripper's identity, finding a completely different person than this result. It's a well-known cottage industry in the UK since it's their most famous mystery.

Re: Jack the Ripper finally solved. ...

No credence to this theory, at least from a conclusive scientific standpoint. Someone's conveniently forgetting that DNA fragments break down. After 50 years, it's very difficult to amplify intact fragments using the PCR... We've seen how many, something like 125+ years elapse since Jack the Ripper? From a DNA forensic standpoint, I would say the scientific validity of the claim is moot... Not solvable with any confidence level.

But it doesn't stop yet another author with an agenda from trying to make a killing "enlightening" the less-scientifically astute.
