Re: Landlords on my case about my cleanliness!

Yeah, that's a red flag. I can understand keeping something that you have an interest in, but paying to store things that you admit to not caring for is a problem. A problem that Alan will ignore, but that's why this 5 year old thread still gets comments. At least it's gotten me to list more of my stuff on ebay, and if that doesn't sell, it's getting donated/junked.

Re: Landlords on my case about my cleanliness!

Am I missing something? The new unit is already full?

And that looks like a cool projector. I'm assuming you have the whole thing?

That's the old storage unit. He hasn't filled up the new unit yet.

Based on his comments, it looks like the top picture is the old storage unit before he transferred his stuff to the new one.

The bottom picture is the new unit with all the stuff from the old unit in it. It looks like he has about 3 cubic feet left to store all the clutter from his apartment.

Re: Landlords on my case about my cleanliness!

How in the world is Alan going to clear out his apartment with so little room remaining in the new storage unit?

Come on, Alan. Surely you realize now that this new storage unit isn't going to be this incredible space saver that you thought it would be.

I feel like we've reached the point in this thread where it's basically like a really bloody and graphic train derailment in ultra slow motion. It's not pretty at all. I wonder if we will be able to pinpoint the exact moment Alan hits rock bottom.

The piles of obsolete formats are covering up his rock bottom.

Yeah, that was my mistake, I guess I confused the 2 almost identical pictures of storage units cluttered with obsolete media.

The thing about rock bottom, is that people can always manage to find another bottom. Alan isn't going to be one of those "I was able to beat my addiction" success stories. He's going to further decline until the day he dies.

Are these storage units the same size?

That's bleak.

One of the units supposedly is large enough that it will fit everything from his old storage unit AND all the clutter from his apartment.

The bottom one doesn't seem any larger, and already almost as full.

Glad you have that Pretty Woman VHS. One must preserve these obscure films in the shittiest way possible.

8 years to show 30-seconds worth of footage. That's about 1 frame of footage per every 4 days for something shot at 24fps.

Re: Landlords on my case about my cleanliness!

Climate controlled storage. Better for preserving the junk, but much more expensive.

I'm paying $300 a month for a 10 x 20 space. I use it as a warehouse for my gallery inventory, and as temporary overflow when we're changing things at the house. It's also handy when friends need a place to stash something for a month or so. (strict limits on time) It has never been packed full.

Right now, it is the fullest it has ever been. Integrating the new member of the Danger household means a lot of duplicate furniture needs temporary storage until it is sold. (anyone want a MASH table?)

The idea of packing a unit full of stuff that just stays there is creepy.

Alan, do you keep an inventory of everything in that storage unit? Hypothetically, let's say tomorrow that building burnt down and everything was lost. What would you do?

Re: Landlords on my case about my cleanliness!

One thing I see in there is a multi-platter system for 35mm film. For those who never worked projection, that allows you to keep two fully assembled prints on the platters, with one empty one that takes up the film currently being shown.

In other words, a commercial movie theater system, not something you're likely to use at home. Ever.

It looks like it's a foreign version. Not sure why he would need a copy of Pretty Woman in another language, but I'm sure he has a good reason. Probably due to some obscure trailer or something.

He said he would give it to a theater if they meet a bunch of ridiculous criteria. I think one of them was that he get to come in an run it occasionally, which I don't see any theater agreeing to.

Re: Landlords on my case about my cleanliness!

The new unit is twice the size of the old one. The old unit had everything packed in Tetris-style, and the projection stuff was obtained later so it was mostly in the front. I put that stuff towards the back this time. It isn't piled as high yet as the old unit. Yes, I know it's nuts to keep media I don't care much about, but even the sports tapes will likely have SOMETHING of interest- music, maybe a funny shot of the audience, something like that. I like the old NFL Films for those reasons. The Pretty Woman tape is from Japan, I think it was put out for grabs at the Tower office. I haven't checked it for trailers. I've got enough tapes at home to go through before I bring this one back over.

The projection stuff is a conundrum because I may not ever have a place to set it up myself, but I still would not want to trash it. I don't know how much film projection equipment is left in the world but I don't want to contribute to its decrease, a lot of it was already trashed when theaters got rid of them.

Re: Landlords on my case about my cleanliness!

There are some theaters that do show old prints that might be interested in the projector, but really you're not going to give it up so it doesn't really matter.
