The amount of shit rattling in his apartment I imagine when Alan is watching some Atmos-enhanced porn is very disconcerting.

Re: Landlords on my case about my cleanliness!

Can you imagine when the lights are off and a bright daylight scene is shown on the TV, casting a glow on all the shit he has piled on the table IN FRONT of the TV. At least throw that shit on the floor and have the area in front of the TV clear. What’s the harm in a little extra junk on the floor, right?

Re: Landlords on my case about my cleanliness!

Well, thatís less annoying than watching a dark scene on a network show with their logo blazing bright at the bottom of the screen!

My shelf full of D-VHS tapes is to the right, and at first I thought I ought have to move them because their being silver caused a reflective effect from them- but after a week it didnít annoy me. Never put a glass coffee table between your couch and the screen though or youíll soon obsess over seeing cars driving upside down.

Working on getting the crap on the floor cleaned up, already put some of it away but have a few more things to tweak. My next place will have a workbench, though Iíll probably still want to work on them hooked to the best possible screen.

BTW a long time ago on Home Theater Forum, there was a joke discussion about whether being naked affected sound quality or not.

I don't get this complaint. The logos are small and unobtrusive, unlike old tape rolls and piles of garbage that you have to wade through in front of the television.

It depends on your mindset. We're generally all here because we love TV and movies, but nothing on any TV screen is more important than what's happening in the real world.

If you can watch Hoarders and be more annoyed by the A&E bug on the corner of the screen than the actual bugs crawling around on the piles of garbage everywhere, you've lost some important life balance.

I believe we've been told that they are mailer tubes for film trailers. I have a few of those kicking around myself, but I don't use them for speaker supports, I did something crazy like buying speaker stands.

Re: Landlords on my case about my cleanliness!

They're plastic cores the film was wound onto, not mailer tubes. The later ones were on much smaller ones than those also- I kinda swiped a bunch to hold up that speaker when I first got it, and they've worked ever since.

No real news, place is still a mess and I'm usually too tired to do anything about it after both working and trying to find a better job, but thought I'd share this latest "Community Letter" email I got today:

"Good afternoon residents,
I have been informed by the owner that many tenants are not picking up after their pets. Please pick up your pets poop and spray down their pee. Without rain the property starts to smell terribly. She also asks that when plumbing issues arise do not use Draino. Draino is causing more issues. Please contact the 24 hour maintenance line."

Sounds like a wonderful place to live. Piles of junk indoors, piles of shit outdoors. I'd be out of there like a shot.

Yeah, and are we sure that's actually dog poo and pee?

If the non-disposal of dogshit is a problem, the landlord should do what is done elsewhere and take the DNA of every dog in the building. Those who don't pick up after their critters will be fined.

Alan, how many litter boxes do you have going in your apartment? Are you cleaning them in a timely fashion?

Wasn't having the job supposedly going to make you more likely to clean, as you were more "unfocused" when you were jobless and doing nothing all day?

Re: Landlords on my case about my cleanliness!

It kind of is- and I wouldn't call my mindset laziness. As I said in another thread, a big problem I have is that I physically feel exhausted far more than I should- there are times when I simply can't do anything except go to sleep. While it's likely at least partially a subconscious way of avoiding things I have to do, it's happened on days when I allowed myself only to do fun stuff as well- I ended up sleeping several hours instead of spending them watching movies or whatever I really wanted to do- and I don't go out when I'm feeling like that because I don't want to cause any accidents. When I'm working, I splash cold water in my face as many times as I have to in order to remain productive, I at least have a built-in sense that falling asleep at work is not a good thing, but then I go right to sleep as soon as I get home.

I've had a few days that weren't like that and I have gotten a few things organized, but still not nearly enough. I'm in the process of getting some additional help though, both with that and finding something closer to a "real" job that I went to school to be able to do. I might have a lead on a house to rent also, through a co-worker who was also hired as a temp along with me. I'm not getting my hopes up about it, but at least it's a possibility. (It has 3 bedrooms, plus a storage area. I told her I would take a look at it soon. Obviously my next job would still have to be in this area if I moved in.)

"Lazy" is a facilely condemnatory word that judgmental people use when they don't understand why someone can't do something that is easy to most others.

Re: Landlords on my case about my cleanliness!

He can throw trash away. He can take five minutes to dust. He just doesn't want to, which is fine, but it's not because of a mental illness. Now it sounds like he might have narcolepsy, but he still found the energy to post.

Re: Landlords on my case about my cleanliness!

They had those at my last job, I drank one but it tasted awful. They had some other ďenergy drinksĒ that I liked though and drank to stay awake but they didnít last the whole day. Iíve heard drinking too many of those is a bad idea. I have regular caffeine sodas here but they donít do jack shit to keep me awake.

OK, have your thyroid checked. Maybe you have a medical condition or just more excuses.

I'm sure that the air that he breathes in that apartment is affecting his health. Taking one look at his kitchen, it is clear that he does not cook for himself so it's probable his diet is very poor as well.

Re: Landlords on my case about my cleanliness!

Being tired and wanting to sleep all day sounds a lot like clinical depression to me. One of my best friends has it and the physical manifestations are a bitch. I've said it before, we are way past shaming Alan into cleaning his place. He needs clinical help to get through this.
