Anyone had their Facebook account hacked?

Just curious. If someone hacks into your facebook account, does Facebook generally send you emails saying something like "an unauthorized user is trying to access your account" ??

Re: Anyone had their Facebook account hacked?

Sometimes I forget my password, and after making several guesses Facebook sends me an email basically saying, "Someone was trying to log into your account at such and such time. If this wasn't you then you might want to change your password."

Ok thanks. I was asking because a friend is saying someone hacked into her account because she made a very unflattering post about someone else.

We don't believe her, and now she's saying I'm getting emails from facebook saying "an unauthorized user is trying to access your account."

Just trying to figure out if Facebook sends those out or not.

thanks again

Generally intruders don't hack your account just to be a bitch to your friends.

Yeah, they usually put fake links to try and sell something or give you a virus or whatever. That's what I was thinking.

OTOH, friends or frenemies might post something from your acct if you stay logged in on a semi-public computer, or perhaps they know your password.

I can check on your account and make sure it's safe from the scum trying to pretend they are looking out for your best interest but are really just trying to do bad things.... What's your password?

I used to do this at work all the time when people left themselves logged into Facebook. I would be very subtle, like I went into one guys list of favourate books and added Mein Kampf and The Turner Diaries.

A couple years later, I looked at his profile and they were still in there. We're no longer Facebook friends so I don't know if he got rid of them, but he now works for the government, so it's always been in the back of my mind when his name comes up, 'Shit, I'd feel bad if this got noticed and he got fired.'.

Oh, and now that I think about it, I think it might be gmail that asks me if I tried logging in at such and such time, not Facebook.

I've done pretty much the same thing. I've also made posts under other's accounts as them when they leave them open, just like the OP's friend is saying. It's possible the person in question is telling the truth, but only if they have assholes like me and Crocker Jarmen as co-workers.

Re: Anyone had their Facebook account hacked?

This was kind of a bad thing. It wasn't meant as a joke what this person did. I deleted Facebook a few years back and was just trying to find out if this person was lying or not.

Re: Anyone had their Facebook account hacked?

I remember a couple of years ago being in a University library and one of the students had left the browser open without logging out of his facebook account. So i decided to leave him a nice message on the home page. It basically said that i was not him and as a lesson to help him learn to always sign out i provided a list of colorful messages.

Make sure the link actually goes to Facebook or Google or whatever. This is a pretty common phishing scheme.

Re: Anyone had their Facebook account hacked?

One of my friends on Facebook posted a pic of a very young woman who was naked on her back, showing her lady bits. It obviously looked like a private photo. The face was partially obscured to see who it might be.

Several of us messaged him. It took a few days for him to post he didn't post it, his account got hacked... but the pic remained. He said he couldn't delete it. He then said he deleted his account but it was still there. Eventually he took care of it but we figured he didn't know what he was doing.

Attempting "forum domination". This includes creating new threads in a forum when a large number of yours are still on the first page of that forum as well as responding to so many threads in a forum that it becomes obvious that your primary purpose is to have your name appear as the last poster. This number can vary by forum and moderators will determine the appropriate numbers for those forums.
Knock it off new guy.

Yeah and it pissed me off. I reported that thread to a mod and will hopefully see this guy banned. I sure hope that link doesn't put a virus on someone's computer or open them up for hacking.

Why are new members referred to as 'cool new members'? Shouldn't they just be called 'lame new spammers' instead?

Yes, they should. It seems like the majority of "new members" just come to here to try to pull the wool over the eyes or piss people off. This guy succeeded at doing both.

It makes me wonder how many legitimate new members DVDTalk even still gets nowadays. DVDs are so 1997. We're dinosaurs just like VHSTalk.

I dunno about that. The talk is still lively over at EightTrackTalk.com. Especially if you're into the Oakridge Boys.
