I remember watching the NBA on tape delay after local news on CBS late nights around 11:30pm

That's how old I am.

Also I remember when it was considered cool to wear Velcro sneakers.

Re: The "Holy Crap I'm Old!!" thread

Growing up we had a choice of four TV stations CBS, NBC, ABC and PBS. Most of them went off the air after the 10:00 news. I started my first job at Burger King in 1976 making $2.20 an hour.

Re: The "Holy Crap I'm Old!!" thread

I made $4.25 an hour at my college bookstore in 1994.

Trying living on that nowadays?

Here's another one to make the sports fan here feel really old. In 2 years, it will have been 30 years since Villanova upset Georgetown in the 1985 NCAA Final. All of that team are in their early 50's now.

I remember watching Houston vs. the Lakers on tape delay in 1986.

Spoiler:
I was watching in the dorm with a Lakers fan and I being a Boston fan was obviously rooting for Houston. A guy wandered in saying he knew what the final score was. (In 1986?? Either he'd been listening to the radio or he had a sports almanac from the future.) I said I didn't want to know the final score, and the Lakers fan said, "Yeah, I don't want to know either." The Lakers fan finally gives in, and the other guy whispers in his ear. The Lakers fan cusses and stomps out of the room. I keep watching, and after Hakeem fouls out, Ralph Sampson hits a game-winning buzzer-beater on an inbounds turnaround. Great finish, except I already knew who won.

The movie Dazed & Confused came out longer ago than the era it depicted was from when it was released.

When I watch old movies now, I realize I'm now older than John Wayne, Henry Fonda and James Stewart were in most of their classics. They were all in HOW THE WEST WAS WON and I'm now older than they all were in that movie.

That's old!

(Although, to be fair, Stewart was still able to get it on with a 30-year-old Carroll Baker in that movie. If only I were so lucky...)

When I was in college I got unleaded gas for $0.11 a gallon.... that's because the fuel attendant misplaced the decimal point

Luke Perry is NOT 61 (yet- he's 46 right now.)

I keep wondering when a movie like "Dazed and Confused" or "Stand by Me" set in the 1990s will be made.

DVDs are now old enough to drive. It's been almost 30 years since CDs were introduced.

I remember when Walter Cronkite was still giving the evening news on CBS. Just on the cusp of my memory is a little scare called Three Mile Island.
When the Atari 2600 was brand new and getting one was the coolest gift ever.
When 300 baud was "fast" and a 10 megabyte Hard drive was the Bomb.
Also remember when parents didn't "helicopter" over their kids and left them to their own devises... even though I'm rather sure that crime rates were the same (SoCal) as or higher than today. Great times and memories never lost.

And I'm proud to remember a time when cell phones and social media sites didn't exist and living a great life in spite of that!

if someone born the year Mount St. Helens erupted (1980) gave birth at 20 they would now have a teenager for a child
my paternal grandmother has been dead 30 years
I'm now older than 3 Space Shuttle Challenger crew members were when they were killed in the tragic explosion (Ronald McNair,Christa McAuliffe and Judith Resnik)
Halley's Comet was last seen over a quarter century ago
the first 64 team March Madness took place 28 years ago
people born in 1992 can legally buy a beer
a person born in 1978 is now old enough to be President of the United States
I remember when gas was under a dollar and had lead in it
cable TV was a new thing and HD didn't exist
when I started kindergarten Michael Jordan was still playing basketball, IN HIGH SCHOOL

I remember watching Twilight Zone in primetime when it was brand new.
First job was $1.65/hour
No pull tabs on cans, opener required
Phones all had rotary dials
No baseball divisions or playoffs. World Series played during day.
Only thing McDonalds sold was regular hamburger and fries
Walt Disney was real live person
Candy cigarettes
Freak shows at carnivals/fairs
Playboy sold everywhere magazines are sold

In two years, I will have been a member of this forum for half of my lifetime. I don't post much, compared to some of you guys. But I probably spend three hours a day on here. At least.

If that's not a reason to paint the ceiling with my brains, I don't know what is.

Saw the other day that Johnny Depp is the same age now as Wilford Brimley was in Cocoon....also, if Dazed and Confused were made today, it would be about the class of 96

Re: The "Holy Crap I'm Old!!" thread

Last week Cindy Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" turned 30.
Elvis has been dead for 35 years... John Lennon 33... Freddy Mercury 22.

I was born the same month as the famous Manson murders.

I am older than any currently active NHL, NBA and NFL player.

Oddly, as old as I am/feel... I still wasn't alive the last time the Leafs played in a Stanley Cup.
