Birthday gift for a male friend?

So, I never really give gifts to my male friends for their birthdays or Christmas or anything like that, but my buddy's birthday is coming up and this guy has actually given me some thoughtful gifts in the past. Why he does it I don't really know. He doesn't have a ton of dough, but he's actually spent a decent amount of money on me in the past like bottles of decent scotch and blu ray movies and stuff like that.

So I guess I'm just looking for some ideas for gifts from one guy to another. We've known each other for like 15 years--college roommates, roommates for a while after college and stuff. I asked his fiance what he might want but all she came up with was an Aaron Rogers jersey (he's a Packer fan) and an iPhone mounting thing for his car. Both of those ideas sounded kind of lame. Oh, she also suggested getting him a hooker, presumably so she wouldn't have to bang him that night.

He doesn't like any kind of alcohol other than Captain Morgan and beer so wine or scotch is out. It's tough because he doesn't seem to like anything. I could always just get a Best Buy gift card or something but that's lame. Like I said, he actually did put a little thought into some things he's given me in the past.

So, have any of you guys given your male friends anything cool for their birthdays?

Go for a really nice pocket-knife. It's a great guy gift.

Season tickets to his favorite team, or maybe a cat.

I usually my best buddy out for drinks or something. A couple of years I've taken him to Vegas for March Madness. I've also given him sports tickets and sports jerseys.

This is actually better than I expected from this place. 9 suggestions and 5 were actually real ones. 5/9 is like the best ratio I've ever seen here.

Get him something Packer related, or something making fun of the Packers losing.

I was actually thinking of a multi-tool. You know those things that have like 20 tools in one? I have one myself. Really useful to just keep in the car or something.

If he's a big Packers fan, I like the jersey idea if he doesn't already have one. Maybe instead of Rogers' name personalize it with his name or a nickname.

You say he likes Captain Morgan. Why not try to introduce him to some of the higher end, "boutique" rums out there?

I would normally say that would be a good idea. However, I've known this guy for a long time and have tried to introduce him to different things, but he's one of the most close-minded people I've ever met. He's the type of guy that will literally turn down a free drink if it's not Captain and Coke (can't even be Pepsi) or a Coors Light. I mean like if somebody at the bar buys him something he'll actually say "no, I don't drink that." I've tried and failed so many times that I've completely given up and just deal with the fact that his view of the world is EXTREMELY narrow. He's a good guy but it's frustrating that he's so stubborn about being open to new stuff...mostly when it comes to food and drink I guess.

Re: Birthday gift for a male friend?

If he likes watching TV/movies, I'd get him a Roku ($50-$100). That'll give him access to Netflix, Hulu Plus and Amazon streaming. He'd need to have home wifi or a wired connection from his router.

If he likes reading, I'd get a Kindle ($80-$200). I've bought a couple of these as gifts and everyone loved them.

For a coffee drinker, I might get a Keurig ($100-$150). It's that coffee maker that uses the little portion cups. Bought one for my Dad and he uses it a couple times a day. I've got one too even though I'm not a big coffee fan, but I love the convenience. However, if your friend is a coffee snob, then he probably prefers grinding and brewing his own.

If you want to spend more, consider an iPad ($500-$800). I got one as a gift last year. Took me a little while to figure out some good uses for it. But these days I use it for all kinds of stuff. One of the best gifts I've gotten in a long time.

Exactly how long did it take you to realize you have a portable pornography machine?

That's actually the first thing I considered. Then I went to the porn tubes and found out they all use Flash.

Re: Birthday gift for a male friend?

Some blu-rays, a round of drinks, gift cards, doesn't seem too hard.
