Opportunity to eat dog...

Tomorrow I'm headed to Sichuan, then on to Tibet. I'm looking forward to Sichuan as it really is some of the best food in the world (often thrown on chinese menus as szechuan style). I went last year and was wowed... I tried so many things but was reserved. This year I want to try anything I can.

A friend mentioned that dog is being served now... traditionally a food for cold weather, often eaten in rural areas, though many traditional joints will serve it stewed.

I was in a village last year that raised dog for food. I didn't even notice until i reviewed the photos of all these cute under-one-year-old puppies and looked it up online.

I'm not going to eat it. Two of my friends (non-chinese, Americans said they would).

But would you?

Friend spent 3 years in China. Said it tasted better than most of the other meats.

If it was being served to me in a home, yes. But I would never order it.

Re: Opportunity to eat dog...

Sure, why not. I'd probably try any kind of meat, except for maybe "long pig".

Re: Opportunity to eat dog...

Yeah I'd actually love to try it. Just like any other type of food I'd just want it to be prepared correctly and done cleanly.

I'd try any animal once basically, except for Sloths they are too awesome to eat.

Re: Opportunity to eat dog...

I'd prefer to have mine less free range, more tethered, veal-like if you will. Preferably milk fed.

I'm of a higher class... no street puppies for me. It would have to be played with and petted by a loving family for at least a year. And I want to pick it out of a pet shop cage, like with a tank of lobster.

Re: Opportunity to eat dog...

I told myself I would when in Vietnam. We went to several restaurants that had it on the menu, but I never got myself to actually order it. Maybe because my wife would never forgive me.

Re: Opportunity to eat dog...

Nah I couldn't do it. I'm a meat eating machine, but I would just feel bad. Dogs are so trusting and then to eat it? It would send me to therapy.

Re: Opportunity to eat dog...

Easily, without a second-thought. It's just as much animal as any other. Plus I fucking hate dogs, so it'd be tasty revenge.

This. I don't think there's any way I could order it, but I would try it if it were served to me.

Re: Opportunity to eat dog...

I doubt that I could ever bring myself to eat dog unless civilization as we know it had collapsed (as in Jeremiah) and it was one of the few remaining sources of food to survive on.

My wife says she'd rather starve to death than eat a dog. -kd5-

I'm moving to Chengdu on Monday. Won't seek it out, but wouldn't refuse it.

Re: Opportunity to eat dog...

I would just to tell dog lovers how good they taste (or I would be disappointed if they didn't taste good)

I don't think I would/could eat the family pet, but on a menu in a restaurant? sure why not
