National Do-Not-Call List - Let's Call to Make Sure!

WTF! I get a lot of calls from local companies trying to sell me new windows or home repair shit or whatever the current trend is, so I had myself put on the "National Do-Not-Call" list months ago. The calls keep coming, and sometimes I tell them (assuming I don't just hang up) that I'm on the list, or to remove me from their list. It's still very frustrating because I get a lot of the "auto" calls that don't even have anyone there; just checking so they can call later.

So just now I get a call from some jackass saying that he shows me on his list as being marked for DO NOT CALL and wanted to confirm that his information was correct!!! GAH!!!

I swear I'm gonna just turn off the ringer and let everything go to voicemail. Bastards!!

Bingo! Add a Panasonic cordless phone that allows you to block incoming calls and you get one ring before they get blocked!

Isn't there a tone you can add to the beginning of your voice mail? It's the "boop-beep" that a disconnected number makes before the "this number has been disconnected" message. It tells auto-callers that your number isn't valid anymore and removes you from their list.

Record that sound that a fax or modem makes and use that as the voice mail.

This is exactly why I don't have a land line.

"Add me to your Do Not Call list", not "Remove me from your list". Some telemarketing companies are very strict about the language they will accept.

In the ten years I've had a cell phone, I don't think I've gotten even a dozen solicitation calls. With landlines I got them every day.
