what to do when someone parks too close to you?

im not talking about like "omg they might dent/scratch my car" close. im talking about "omg i cannot physically get into my car" close.

this just happened to me. its fucking annoying, rude and inconsiderate to just park how you want without thinking about the cars next to you - including, of course, not scratching or denting your neighboring car. i have many times backed up and re-centered my car when i feel that i didnt park correctly. not only for their sake but i just dont trust other people. (and still have lots of dings and dents in my car...not cool people)

and yes, this time was no exception. i was parked in between my lines and his car was waaaaaay over. shoulda taken a pic now that i think about it (i did leave him a note on his windshield though).

so whats the rule? whats the law? do i have the right to do whatever i want to get into my car? can i call the cops or a tow truck? what if i was really late for something important (like work)? fortunately i wasn't and had a few extra minutes but still...what about the next time when I don't have an extra few minutes?

in case people are wondering i had to get in through the passenger side and get over to the driver side - it was very difficult and an inconvenience to say the least.

just curious if this has happened to others and what you guys did about it.

If there was no possible way I could get it, I'd call a tow truck.

Either way, I'm not leaving without phleming up their windshield something wicked as a warning to think twice next time.

If you are on private property (grocery store, Walmart, Best Buy, etc..) only thing you can do is maybe talk to the store manager to page the person. Cops aren't gonna do squat in a private parking lot.

You'll probably get a "sucks to be you" from them.

Re: what to do when someone parks too close to you?

I've had to do the same thing (using the passenger door and climbing over to the other side).
It sucks, but I can't imagine that cops or security guards are going to help you.

I once parked too close to someone, but it was because they were way over the line (on the driver's side, no less), so I pulled into the space next to them since it was the only one left. The lot only had 6 or 7 spaces. When I came out of the store (7-11), the woman was standing there, angry. She asked my why I did that. I said, "It was the only spot, and you're way over the line." She called me an asshole.

When this has happened to me, I've left a passive-aggressive note and climbed into my car through the passenger side.

Re: what to do when someone parks too close to you?

This happened to me when I was in high school. Was having lunch at McD's and came out to find someone had parked so close to my driver's side door that I had to get in through the passenger side. I dumped my just-refilled large Coke all over their hood and took off.

A friend of mine used to keep a few copies of a picture of Mickey Mouse giving you the finger with a caption that said something like, 'Next time leave me a fucking can opener!'

Re: what to do when someone parks too close to you?

I take pictures of it and post 'em on the Internet!

Granted, this isn't so close that I can't get into my car, but it is an annoying parking experience none the less, and besides...I've got PICTURES!

You know...

I actually take a little time to park our car as straight as I can to make sure that those who park around me will have ample room to get in or out of their space with ease and hopefully NOT hit or ding up our car in the process.

Way back in 2008 (when we had our Matrix), I started a thread on the topic and here's some pics from it.

I went to CVS over there on Fairfax & 3rd to buy some munchies, and when I returned to my car, I found this:

Now I can drive fairly well, and sure, there was no real emergency here but with all respect...what is it with folks that park like that anyway?

If I have to go in the passenger side, I then open my door and dent the hell out of theirs. If I have to squeeze in my side, I do the same thing. I have no tolerance for this.

They have too much air in their tires and are begging you to use your trusty knife to solve the problem.

Aren't you glad you don't have to put up with this shit? Imagine getting your feet too close to some guy on the subway and having him slit the laces.

Re: what to do when someone parks too close to you?

This is why I park far away in the empty spots. Even then some ass will park right next to me. WTF?!?!?!

I'm a big guy and if cars park close I end up having to crawl in from the passenger side.

Yeah, the one time it happened to me, I scooted in through the passenger side. I did leave a note on the offending car's windshield that said, "You park like an ass."

Absolutely. If you park too close to me like that, you're getting hit.
