PB&J or BBQ Chicken Sandwich in a CAN!?! Jeepers!

DENVER — Is putting a sandwich in a can and calling it a “Candwich” the next can’t-miss billion-dollar idea?
Enlarge This Image

Even if it is, investors in Utah who put $145 million in the hands of a money manager named Travis L. Wright will still have thinner wallets. A lawsuit by the federal Securities and Exchange Commission says that Mr. Wright promised returns of up to 24 percent on real estate investments, but that he put the money instead into Candwich development and other equally untried ideas.

Along with sales of canned sandwiches — Pepperoni Pizza Pocket and French Toast in a can were planned — Mr. Wright’s companies, under the banner of Waterford Funding, also invested in a company selling rose petals printed with greeting card sentiments and another selling watches over the Internet.

Utah has long endured a reputation as a place where many people are naďve or trusting to the point of losing their shirts. And the erosion of retirement savings in the recession has only compounded the problem, said Michael E. Hines, the director of enforcement at the Utah Division of Securities.

“A lot of 401(k)s have become 201(k)s,” Mr. Hines said.

Some scammers do not even need expensive-looking offices as stage sets. About five years ago, for example, a scheme promising a $50 million payout for a $5,000 investment raked in about $144 million nationally. In Utah, the group successfully sought investors by putting fliers on car windshields. Much of the money ended up in Latvia, Mr. Hines said.

Mr. Wright, who is 47 and lives in Draper, Utah, according to the suit, did not return telephone calls. Several listings for Waterford Funding were disconnected or not in service.

Meanwhile, the Candwich concept perseveres. The president of Mark One Foods, Mark Kirkland, who said he patented the idea of putting solid food in a beverage container with the slogan, “Quick & Tasty, Ready to Eat,” said Mr. Wright promised full financial backing for Candwich production that never really materialized even as investors did. He said he believed that canned sandwiches would ultimately sell, and hoped to go into production later this year.

The shelf life of a Candwich is excellent, Mr. Kirkland said.

This has got to be the most DISGUSTING thing Ive ever heard of since the "Thanksgiving Soda" from Jones soda a few years ago...

those Jones' weren't really anything but conversation starters, this is actually maent for real eating.
Why is it disgusting, what does it matter if it's in a can or a plastic bag or a box.

I still don't see why the packaging determines the disgust factor.

When I first heard about this, I thought it was a sandwich in a tin-can but a sandwich in a drinking can? That's like having your food regurgitated by a mama bird.

The packaging does seem to show more of a soda can top than a traditional pull top can. That is a little unsettling

Look at the picture. This is obviously just some piece of shit disgusting sandwich stuffed into a soda can. It not like this is a respectable sandwich you pick up in in plastic bag at your grocery stores deli.

No, this is more like going to a concert and having a grown-man spit refreshing water into your mouth ...

Point of clarification -- the FDA has ruled that errant cockroaches cannot be marketed as "candy surprises."

Actually, the idea of using a "soda" can is probably the most brilliant part of this ... vending machines are already designed to accommodate the size and shape of the product, so no further investment is needed to develop the machines. I will give points for the use of the soda can.

I will also subtract points for the first idiot who decides to microwave the chicken sandwich while it is still in the can. Oh hell, that may be entertaining ... I'll give him bonus points!

Don't they (or didn't they) use something like this for rations in the armed forces? I remember reading somewhere about hamburgers in cans...

It was a German or Norwegian thing, like a fully-made cheeseburger that you boiled in the can before you ate it.

Yeah, but the problem is the meat cooked faster than the uncooked bread, so either you got an overcooked patty or undercooked buns.

And I thought mixing peanut butter and jelly in a jar was for lazy people. You don't even need to spread it on bread any more!

Also:

Free yourself from the shackles of separately spreading mustard and mayonnaise!*

*Note, mayonnaise may expire before mustard.

Not only is it a stupid idea (whose time has come due to an over abundance of stupid people....maybe this will go over in Florida?) but its disgusting as well..

plus its spelled wrong...cand? CANNED...too long? Maybe just CANWICH would have been better...jeez...

Re: PB&J or BBQ Chicken Sandwich in a CAN!?! Jeepers!

People will buy it for the novelty of it, but beyond that I can't see the concept going anywhere. Although, in this world of convenience foods winning out over a good home cooked meal, you never know. All I can say is that beyond the novelty, people would have to be pretty brainless to buy these with any regularity. The concept should ultimately fail, but with the amount of devolution going on, I wouldn't be surprised if it actually flourished. I know however that I will never buy one of them, I think the entire concept is ludicrous... -kd5-

Re: PB&J or BBQ Chicken Sandwich in a CAN!?! Jeepers!

If they made this like a hotpocket in a can I could see it working. Like someone said, dispense it from a soda machine, drop in boiling water for 5 minutes - hot tasty pepperoni pizza candwich, philly cheesesteak, apple pie.

Re: PB&J or BBQ Chicken Sandwich in a CAN!?! Jeepers!

I think it's funny that people would be far more accepting of the exact same product wrapped in plastic instead of a can.
