Re: Tell me about....Kansas City
Valentine's Day definitely played a role in the crowds. We didn't want to pre-purchase any tickets because we wanted to be able to change plans. We've been on trips (with the kids) where we made meticulous plans and schedules -- that made us completely miserable. We wanted to be able to roll with it.
Alamo Drafthouse was a spur of the moment time killer when they told us it was a two hour wait for a table. I really want to see a show there, but I figured driving 5 hours for the trip and then making a point of going to a movie was kind of silly. I prefer to ask people for suggestions. Those visitor's books and websites are OK, but mainly they are about who bought advertising. We talked about BBQ multiple times, but never ended up seeking any out. That's on our "next time" list along with the zoo, a Royals game, and brewery tours. |

Bahahaaha.....Ameristar was the only one that showed up on my google map. I take it I should check out Hollywood instead? From visitor taken photos of Ameristar, it looked pretty depressing actually. There were barely anybody there and some of the lights on the outside were out. It's like they don't even give a shit anymore.

Re: Tell me about....Kansas City
Yep, we had an impromptu Cinco De Mayo dinner. Good times, finally. Hopefully maybe a few more next time.

Re: Tell me about....Kansas City
Is everything still up-to-date in Kansas City? I'm headed there for an art show this weekend and want to make sure I don't miss out on any of the latest technologies.

Re: Tell me about....Kansas City
No ... Cell phone coverage has been dumped in lieu of telegraphs and Pony Express. The City Council banned digital music last year and required everyone to convert back to 8-tracks.
The Internet has been rolled back to dial-up AOL service thanks to a sweet-heart deal the City cut, bringing AOL headquarters to KC. All cars have been banned except for 1973 AMC Gremlins. They also have dinosaurs in their zoo. ;) |
Re: Tell me about....Kansas City
Oh well, I don't need any of that newfangled stuff, anyway. ;) I mainly just bumped this thread to ask if Joe's KC BBQ is worth the trouble. We'll be staying at the Marriott at Country Club Plaza, just a few miles away from the original location, and will probably have some time to kill on Friday afternoon before the art fair opens. Thinking about going to Joe's for lunch or something. What say you, Kansas Citians?

Re: Tell me about....Kansas City
We went through KC in February (boyfriend's hometown). Went to Joes and Gates, both excellent. I definitely think stopping at KC Joes is worth it. The line moved really fast while we were there, and we had no trouble finding a seat, even though it seemed a little crowded at first.
My favorite place we went was called In-a-Tub. I have a thing for regional fast food, so the deep fried veggie sticks dipped in nacho sauce were right up my alley. :) |
Re: Tell me about....Kansas City
The Plaza will be packed over the weekend since its Prom season, head to Westport for good food and drink. Beer Kitchen, Mccoy's, Wesport Ale House, just to name a few places. Joe's is good but not worth the lines. Go to Jack Stack BBQ since your on the Plaza, its pricey, but its better.
