Obesity: it's the new get-out-of-jail-free card!

FOX News:

A 600-pound Florida man pleaded no contest to scamming numerous restaurants and stores out of food -- and will avoid jail because it's too expensive for the state to pay his medical bills, The Orlando Sentinel reports.

George Jolicoeur, 38, was charged with felony petty theft for allegedly demanding refunds in restaurants and stores for spoiled or defective food -- after he had eaten all or most of it. His attorney says he's been in a nursing facility for months and needs a respirator to breathe.

Jolicoeur was arrested in 2007 at a 7-Eleven for telling a clerk he'd bought $50 of beef jerky, only to discover it was moldy. "The beef jerky got me," the arrest report states.

In 2005 he pleaded no contest to five crimes, including one that claimed he found hair in six milkshakes that he had consumed, The Sentinel reports.

Assistant State Attorney Kyan Ware says the state would have to pay to get him to the courthouse and for any medical care he would need due to his obesity during the proceedings. Jolicoeur received a deal to plea no contest to five misdemeanor petty theft counts and pay $1,365 in court fees plus unspecified restitution.

"He's in his prison cell. He's not getting out of that bed," Ware told the Sentinel.

Fantastic. I mean, I don't think the state should have to pay for this fatty to be housed, but the way most Americans (and their bloated offspring) are eating these days, we'll be letting people off the hook 24/7 due to an enlarged ass.

Also: FL.

His fat ass sitting in a jail cell might be just the diet he needs.

"The beef jerky got me"

If ever there was a catchphrase in need of a t-shirt, this is it.

Grind him up. He'd feed at least 1,000 dogs for a few months.

I don't carry enough sets of cuffs to make that arrest.

I saw that as a sign of an impending morbid obesity heart attack.

The ASP flex cuffs should fit. Of course, he might grab them out of your hand and eat them first.

How would you fit him in the back of a squad car? How would your suspension hold up? If you DID get him into the back of the squad car, and to the station, how would you get him back OUT of your car?

I love how the 7-11 clerk had him arrested for trying to get a refund on the jerky. I've worked plenty of retail jobs and not ONCE did I think of calling the police for a stupid refund request that I could clearly see was the customer trying to scam the store.

So I've got a year of eating McDonalds, KFC, Burger King, etc every day before I go on my murderous rampage.

Good to know.

Why didn't he just run when the 7-11 clerk called the cops?

The guy's already in his own self imposed fat prison.

Run? The man can't even wipe his own ass or even breathe quietly. I think running is beyond his current capabilities.

I can't even imagining being that big. I mean, there are a lot of fat people, but at 600lb I'm pretty sure he'd be winded in 4-5 quick steps. I'm usually not judgmental, but between this guy and the "I want to be over 1,000lb" lady....I am tired of my (current and future) tax dollars going to pay for gluttonous and irresponsible people.

Honestly, there is a pretty good chance that he will end up being cheaper on the medical insurance collective than your average American. He'll be dead by 50 and I suspect the chances of him dying suddenly (and cheaply) are much higher than average.

Just make the doors to fast food restaurants and convenience stores too narrow for guys like him, and your problem is solved.
