Jury Duty should really be reserved for those people on Unemployment. In these tough financial times, nobody should be taken away from their job if they won't be paid by their employer.

Re: Jury duty - the bane of the Otter
Basically anyone who is taking financial assistance of any kind should be eligible for jury duty. A friend of mine has been postponing jury duty for a while now and he finally had to serve or face been fined or jailed or whatever it is they do. We work in the film industry and he ended up having to pass on 2 month job because he was picked for a jury and they had to replace him. That's about $16,000 he ended up passing on for a week of "duty". Ridiculous.

I've been called to serve Jury Duty on may 27th. I know it's law for an employer to pay an employee but i know my boss is cheap and wouldn't give a shit. What can happen is he refuses to pay me?

I'm sure that whatever law is on the books, it varies state by state. BUT, in all states I've heard about, employers are not obligated to pay you for days you serve jury duty. They just can't fire you or use it against you any other way.

Re: Jury duty - the bane of the Otter
My sister just got done with a homicide trial. She was the jury foreman. For some reason the defense attorney wanted her even after she informed them she was related to me
They found him guilty...life in prison.
My sister did a great job although she was a bit stressed about it. The woman who died was hit in the head with a hammer like 16 times. She had a tough time with the photographs.
The trial was in my county but had been moved here on a change of venue so the only thing our county gave the prosecutors was a place to have it and the jury pool.
