School: 22-year-old can't attend prom

http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/....old.prom.wgem

A school in Texas has decided a 22-year old can't go to prom.. with his 16 year old fiancée. Her parents are upset that they can't go together to prom. Shouldn't these people be more concerned that her daughter is a junior in high school, and is engaged? Surely they would be concerned about the fact that the guy is most likely commiting statuatory rape? WTF?

Is that what the kids are calling it these days?

The mere fact that they call it "skittles" tells me they're not ready.

She's 17, not 16, thus she's over the age of consent.

I wish kids could somehow get it in their heads that prom (and high school in general) is an overrated pile of shit that has zero bearing on the rest of your life.

If the kid wasn't being allowed to graduate, that's one thing. But her date can't go to her retarded Fish Under the Sea dance? Who gives a fuck.

I agree with you, but at the same time, I'm going "If a girl wants to bring a 22 year old, who gives a fuck?"

There's a certain level of arbitrarinesses to everything going on here it makes it difficult to understand.

It would be worth letting them go just to see what kind of goofy-ass, tacky, redneck formal wear they would come up with.

A 22-year-old dating a 16-year-old doesn't sound outrageous, but think about this -- a few years in the future, when he's 35 -- she'll be 29!

Does this remind anyone else of the dialogue in "Pretty in Pink," where Iona (Annie Potts) tells Andie (Molly Ringwald) about her high school prom experience?

"My mother bought my dress for me. It was the first and only time in my life that I ever looked normal. Would've been a fairy tale if my date hadn't been the only one at the prom with a wife and two kids."

Most things have zero bears in the rest of your life.

If I was a parent, I would not want to skeevy 22 year old my my kids prom. What the fuck is wrong with him? Going out with a 17 year old? Even if it's legal in their state, he is still a fucking loser, who hits on high school girls.

So, you're ok with a 21 year old being there, but a 22 year old is going too far?

Silly.

They ought to just go out to a bar, instead of the prom.

He could wear a disguise (dress as a caterer or janitor).

Or he could sign up as an adult chaperone, paramedic, or probation officer.

Maybe he could volunteer to administer the breathalizer tests.

Or join the live band...the ones hired for proms are usually so terrible that they'll sign up anybody.

Kids these days...they just gots no 'magination!

Lame. 22 and 17 may be a bit of a diff., but i don't think it is horrible. Frankly, if the parents are okay with it.....that should be good enough for the school. It isn't like he is going to come tanked to the event.

When I was 21, I took my 17 year-old girlfriend to her prom. And her parents loved me. Your righteous indignation, as usual, is hilariously misplaced. Then again, I'm a fucking loser.

I dated an 18 year old when I was 26. I dated a 17 year old when I was 20. And my current g/f is 26 and I'm 29. Guess I'm just a pedophile as well.

Most schools have a rule that you can't be 21 or over and attend high school dances, including prom. We had an upset parent whose daughter couldn't bring her boyfriend to prom. They started dating withen she was a Freshman and he was a senior. Then as a senior he was too old to go.

Boo-hoo.
