2008 Dodge Challenger ... $99,000 ?!

Anyone plan on buying one of these when they come out next month? After calling 5-6 dealers in the area, i found one that said they'd hold onto one for me if I left a deposit when they arrive in 3-4 weeks. So I went today with my checkbook, got ready to cut a check until the saleman gave me a price of 99k and change. WTF. Thats more than double the 41k sticker price!

The one-of-a-kind blue one sold on ebay for 250k. I've been dying to buy one for almost 2 years now, but I refuse to pay over sticker. Looks like I'll be waiting a while too. It is actually a good thing. Next year (really only a few months away) they will come out with manual versions with LSD as well as an extra 40hp for the 5.7L version. The 6.1L should stay the same next year, but there are rumors of a 500hp version around 2010 or so.

I just wish more people would refuse to pay 10-20k+ over sticker so dealers couldn't get away with the price gouging.

Don't believe ANYTHING the dealer tells you about holding one for you until you have a signed bill of sale. Most dealers are auctioning off their allocations, even if they previously stated they'd have a waiting list and do first-come-first serve. Dealers are happy to put your name on the order sheet, because it is more likely to be allocated to the dealer than if the dealer ordered it for the lot. Then they can auction your car off to the highest bidder.

I feel your pain. I'm trying to get a Nissan GT-R. I was willing to go as high as $85k, but it looks like it's going to be double that.

They're going to ramp up production for the 09s. They should be much cheaper in nine months.

The first ones are all automatics. Only pussies buy automatic sports cars and pay $100K. My friend actually bought a 2007 Porsche 911 Turbo w/ an automatic. I told him straight up he was a pussy for listening to his wife so she could drive it. I think people who buy automatic sports cars are weak and this 1st version of the Challenger is weak. Wait for the manual and pay below invoice.

Cool car, but certainly not worth $99,000. At least, not to me. I look forward to seeing some of these on the road, though.

Nothing pisses me off more than seeing a sweet ride without a clutch

Meh. I don't think I'd even buy it for $40K. Hopefully not everybody thinks like me though, because Dodge really needs to start selling cars to someone or they might go bye bye.

Buying an American car over MSRP...is silly stupid.

Less cars. Period. We have so many fucking used cars and trucks in great condition, it's getting insane.

When the 300C SRT (same motor as the challenger) came out, the dealer here was charging 10-15k over sticker. About a year later, they were selling for just under invoice.

I can wait and let all the $$$>sense idiots buy the first ones. Still pisses me off that there are people out there that will actually pay that much more than sticker.

All Porsche and Audi automatics are tips. That has to be one of the dumbest inventions ever. I think leaving it in auto actually works better.

Good to know. It is best to learn to drive stick for a sports car, or just buy a minivan.

I expect a lot of 50-something dads with retro sunglasses, driving their overpriced Challenger on sunny days throughout cities in the US.
