Is drinking too much Gatorade bad for you?

I know drinking too much soda is bad because of sugar. What about Gatorade? Say about 20-32oz a day?

if you're simply subbing soda for gatorade, then yes. there are still sugars, not as much, but still a lot. gatorade itself is not as great as what they say it is. if you're looking a way to replenish lost salts from sweat, dilute 1:1 with water. (20oz of water with 20oz of gatorade.)

Propel is less on the caloric side... try that.

Calories doesn't scare me since I'm a skinny guy. Just curious about the sugar level and possibly other stuff.

It's just as bad. Looking it up on Google, one report says it's more corrosive on your teeth than Coke.

If you're drinking it because you're active, then your body will use the ingredients in Gatorade. However, if you're drinking it and are not active, you'll have problems and symptoms as if you were drinking soda.

Yeah, I just buy the non-HFCS juice when it's on sale. Sometimes I add about 1/3 of water to the container when I'm really thirsty. If you add enough water, it actually does taste like a Gatorade drink.

Drink water or the new Gatorade G2, I think it tastes just as good but only 1/3 the calories as regular Gatorade. I used to drink Gatorade failry often, I think it helps me sleep better.

Gatorade IS sugar water. Just about all the calories are from sugar. Gatorade has about 1/2 the sugar as most sodas. So 30 oz of gatorade is more than a can of soda.

If you drink it because you are active, there are much better drinks to replenish your electrolytes. I like Gu2o personally.

If you are drinking for the flavor, (I know you aren't worried about calories, but this may be usefull for someone else) and you want to cut out ALL the sugar, then try drink Crystal Light.

gatorade has high fructose corn syrup which is bad for your liver and can bring on diabetes

Gatorade is pretty bland. I really like Vitamin Water. The flavors are great. I stock a few when I need a change from bottled water.

Vitamin Water is great.
I love that stuff and just wish it was lower in calories.

Everything in moderation, don't sweat it. Don't drink Gatorade like it's nothing, but go ahead and drink it once a day or something if you want.

Try diluting it as someone else suggested... like you, 'Ive never been a big water drinker but I'm better now. Diluted gatorade was one thing that helped. Or get the powder and just add enough to give it the flavor that you need. You'd be surprised how strong regular Gatorade flavor is after trying this.

I find that when I'm sick, it's even harder for me to drink water and it's what i need the most. I do manage to stomach some but I really like to pump myself with fluids, and I tend to OD on gatorade in these times and it really does help flush the sytem and get the fluids in. Sure, I'm toxifying myself with other things but hey, it works fine so far.

Gatorade has a hell of a lot of citric acid in it. Too much of it gives me heartburn.

Also, a lot of corn syrup, as someone else has noted. Vitamin Water uses cane sugar, which is at least better for you, though still caloric.

Glaceau also does a Fruit Water, which is clear rather than colored, and has about 1/3 the calories that Vitamin Water has. It's a little harder to find, but well worth it.

Unfortunately, Glaceau discontinued their old line of Fruit Water, which had zero calories because it only had fruit essence but no sweetener (real or artificial). Those were great--came in watermelon, honeydew, cranberry-grapefruit, grape, and a few other flavors. But I haven't seen those in years.

I stopped drinking soda a while back and was going to switch over to Gatorade, but the amount of sodium you're taking in if you're not sweating it off wasn't worth it.

I now drink Vitamin Water exclusively, and while it's still got a lot of sugar in it, it's way less than Gatorade and soda. Snapple's vitamin water line is decent too.

Sobe's Life Water tastes like crap to me though. And I can't drink the G2 stuff because I don't do artifical sweeteners.

True!

Unless you are an athlete with 6% body fat, you shouldn't drink Gatorade thinking it is good for you. It's full of empty carbs and sodium. The best thing to drink is water. If you really just hate water, try putting a fruit slice of some type in it and squeeze some of the juice out into the glass. Lemons, limes, oranges, anything really, just cut into slices and squeeze a little in and drop the fruit in the water as well.

If you don't like water squeeze a slice of lemon in there. I hate just drinking straight water, and I used to buy Vitamin Water, but didn't like that there were so many carbs/calories in it. For some reason I just love the taste of regular water with some lemon in there though. I know it's nothing new about what I'm suggesting, but it made a huge difference for myself.
