Stop with all the stickers on your cars

There are two new trends in bumper sticker world that I don't get. The first is memorizing a dead person on your rear windshield. I can't understand those who think this is a good idea.

"In Memory of Walter 'Little Ray Ray' Alexander. 1981-2006."

Seriously, the back window of your car is not the place for this. It's for Calvin peeing on a Chevy logo or a Godsmack sticker or some wiseass variation of that Jesus-y fish thing. Unless Little Ray Ray died by going THROUGH that particular piece of glass, leave your memorial at home.

The second one, which is just as creepy to me as the memorial sticker, is the "family head count" stickers.

Surely you've seen them. People are placing little cartoon representations of their entire family in the bottom corners of their rear windshields. There's a husband sticker, a wife sticker, a teenage girl sticker and a little boy sticker, for example. What's the point of this? To announce to the people behind you that you were able to reproduce?

This seems like revealing way too much information about yourself to total strangers and other assorted nutjobs who, you know, might like to know exactly how many people are in your household before they come in and rape you all. Why make criminals have to actually stalk you and study your every move when you can just tell them exactly how many there are of you with a simple collection of stickers?

I also hate all the political stickers, and the abbreviations for places, or colleges. Example: MV for Martha's Vineyard, or some stupid shit.

Edit: I did not post twice, I had a typo, and tried to fix it, but had already hit Save Changes, and tried to save myself. I'm a failure.

I see these all the time. What are you dedicated to the dead person? Your car? A sticker? I don't get it.

In loving memory of #3 Dale Earnhart "The Intimidator"

The sheer number of those stickers around here is frightening.

I'm desensitized to stickers unless they're particularly bizarre or inane, though magnetic ribbons really annoy me for some reason. At one point, it seemed like at least a quarter of the cars in Indianapolis had them.

Around here (Chicago), I haven't seen either of the things that the OP is referring to. Is it an LA thing? (We do get the asinine raodside memorials, though.)

If it is an LA thing then it's cool and we'll wait for the rest of the country to catch up and THEN we'll decide it's lame.

I think you might be talking about the same thing with the Martha's Vineyard ones, but I can't stand the ones for the Outer Banks and those "style." I'm pretty sure the style originated with the outer banks, but now it's like every beach and town has them and people who have been to the outer banks maybe once have them on their cars.

Here is what I'm talking about:

I hate any stickers on "the paint" of the car. Makes me cringe. I am guilty of one decal on my rear window and that's my school decal.

I remember seeing those is Europe when I was a little kid. They were all actual European countries, though.

I don't care what stickers people put on their cars.

I have my high school name and an In-n-Out burger sticker on mine. I just put some "I am proud of my Cub/Boy Scout" ones on, but that was mostly a nod for the kids.

I wish people would take their political stickers off their cars that were for elections THREE YEARS AGO! Shows how far behind the times they are.

I have a Darwin fish on the back of my car, and in the lower right of the rear window I have a sticker for my daughter's high school sport.

So sue me...

And for the record, I've never seen any of those memorial thingies.

I also can't stand all the roadside memorials when it was a drunk idiot who hit a tree at 3 am. Why are we proud of this, exactly?

I see both around here. I don't mind people with "funny" stickers on the car as it gives me something to read if there's traffic.

I do dislike people co-opting the stickers-for-a-country-you've-visited thing from Europe which over here has turned into have a single sticker for whatever obscure corner of the county you've visited. My parents have one for their neighborhood.

Yikes.

I've never understood why anyone would put anything on their back windshield. That would distract the shit out of me.
