Can't sleep damn it...

So here it is, 2:11 in the goddamn morning and I have to be up at 6:30 to get ready for the fun and hilarity that will be Monday morning at work. This sucks. If I'm lucky and can somehow fall dead asleep in the next 15 min I'll end up with a whopping restorative 4 hours of sleep. Somebody kick me.

I feel your pain. Nothing can be done for you tonight, but I'd get a box of these if this is a recurring problem. They're very effective. Good luck.

I've actually taken them before, and they did work pretty well then. Recently I came across some that I'd forgotten I had, the other week, and took those when I couldn't sleep. Strangely, didn't work as well.

Right now I'm trying to find a decently affordable place to live, rent that is. Moving's a pain in the balls. Boston's housing prices are fucking ridiculous though. Maybe I'll luck into something.

Eat light and often throughout the day. It'll help keep you awake.

Don't you hate how when you don't get enough sleep, your body can function all day but your eyes burn like crazy.

Oh hell yeah! Luckily I've got some Visine LR on my desk, hope that works. So as it turns out I ended up actually falling asleep somewhere in the neighborhood of 4:30. That's just kick-me-in-the-balls awesome right there. Morning all!!

I've been taking a melatonin supplement from GNC. It dissolves under your tongue (cherry flavored) and has been working great! I haven't slept this well since I moved out of my parents house 13 years ago!

I was having trouble sleeping after coming off the pain pills from my back surgery. Luckily, I didn't have to work. I'm the biggest b*tch when I don't get my sleep.

I couldn't sleep over the weekend. I had a nightmare and I snored myself awake and then I realized I just wasn't tired.

Another vote for Melatonin, cheap and effective. Tylenol pm works, but it makes me feel like crap the next day.

I've been under a lot of stress with some work and family issues as of late, is this what you are talking about? (swiped from Whole Foods Market website):

Melatonin:

Description A hormone synthesized from L-tryptophan in the diet and secreted by the pineal gland, a pea sized structure at the center of the brain. Release of melatonin is normally triggered by darkness and suppressed by light.

Actions Involved in the synchronization of the circadian rhythm and helps control the sleep cycle. Effects growth hormone release.

I'm willing to guess this is just me, but whenever I take melatonin, I always have unusual dreams.

Oh well, at least I'm sleeping after I take it.

I take melatonin when I can't sleep, and it works great for helping me fall asleep. The problem I have is that it doesn't help me stay asleep. I have Restless Leg (or as Kramer called it "jimmy legs") so I tend to wake up a lot during the night. Guess my point is, it works well for falling asleep, but not as a "sleep all night" type of thing.

I have problems with sleeping as well... Haven't tried Melatonin. Is it something that someone would become dependent on? I don't know that much about it so was just wondering.

I take Melatonin during the week, when I sleep during the day. Sometimes it helps, other times it doesn't. For a while, I was having trouble sleeping through the night if I didn't take it, but that passed after a month or two.

Not the OP, but thanks for this recommendation. I've tried everything. All the non-over the counter sleeping aides, valerian, melatonin. I took these last night and - bam! - sweep me away, sandman.

There was a bit of grogginess this morning, but it only lasted 5 minutes.
