McDonald's Wants You to Know that Iced Tea has ICE in it.

New sign at my McDonalds:

"Attn Customers: McD's Sweet Tea is ICED TEA. Our ICED TEA has a special price of $1.00. If you request a Sweet Tea with NO ICE, you will be charged full soda price. Thank you."

The employees don't seem to be enforcing it, for now (my half hearted complaint got me an full cup with no ice for $1), but this is a just a ridiculous way to pinch pennies. Unfortunately, this is a city McD's so the soda is behind the counter instead of on the floor.

Silliness.

Tea, water and sugar and they want to pinch pennies? Sometimes it does need ice because they sweeten in too much but that's a choice I should be entitled to make.

So, if you want iced tea with no ice, they're gonna charge you more?

So why don't they charge more for pop with no ice?

Silly.

Part of the recipe of Iced Tea is the ice that melts from the warm or room temperature, getting it down to the proper strength. I've had tea that's too strong or too sweet that definitely needed some ice melted in it.

While I was out to lunch I saw that the McDs around here are offering free Iced Coffee samples from 12-2, I'm surprised there wasn't a disclaimer that those drinks include ice.

Sweet tea is nasty ass anyway. Just eat a spoonful of sugar. Tea is meant to be like Russia. Strong!!!

Anyway, I don't think the term ICED tea necessarily implies that there needs to be ice in it. I take it to mean cold tea, as opposed to hot tea.

One question for the McD folks...are there free refills on this Sweet Tea?

Without ice they have to give you more of the product, hence charging more? It's the only reason I can think of.

except it almost certainly costs them more to produce the ice than it does to give you a little more tea.

Ok what is Sweet Tea is it Iced Tea? Is it Iced Tea with sugar added, I know this is a southern thing, Out here in California we just ask for iced tea and put sugar in it. I am so confused.

Iced tea without ice is not iced tea. It's nasty. But then, I don't like iced tea with sugar, either. I only sweeten iced tea if it wasn't made properly or is too old to drink without sweetening it.

"Sweet tea" is a Southern synonym for iced tea.

Wouldn't "sweet" tea have to have a sweetening agent (like sugar)? When I order "Iced tea" I expect unsweetened tea.

What kind of backwards town makes you put sugar in your tea after it's served? There's supposed to be sugar in the mixture. The general southern preference is 5 parts sugar to 1 part water.

sweet tea adds sugar in the brewing process. unsweetened tea does not (but can be sweetened after brewing)

unsweetened tea that is sweetened after brewing is NOT sweet tea.
