What types of firewood do you use?

So what type of wood do you use. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each type.

I am looking to buy wood for the winter and I am wondering what kind to get..


let me also add that this is wood that I want to burn in my home

Mixed hardwoods - primarily oak. It burns hot and slow.....

I don't currently heat my home with wood, but we used to use tamarack and white pine.

My house came with piles of wood already cut - not sure what kind it is.

SO I just bought half Cherry and half oak for this years fire...

I would think cherry is too expensive to be used in a fireplace. Was it more expensive than the oak?

It wasn't too bad....

They wanted $125 for all oak,
and $140 for all cherry
They had 1/2 oak and 1/2 cherry for $135.00
They also had your general mixed hardwoods for $115.00
