Steve Irwin Killed by Stingray

This totally sucks...I really liked this guy. He was a strong family man and did a lot of great things for Australia, wildlife and the world in general.

Guess he died what he loved doing.

Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin dead
September 04, 2006 02:14pm

THE Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, is dead.

He was killed in a freak accident in Cairns, police sources said. It is understood he was killed by a sting-ray barb that went through his chest.

He was swimming off the Low Isles at Port Douglas filming an underwater documentary and that's when it occured.

Ambulance officers confirmed they attended a reef fatality this morning at Batt Reef off Port Douglas.

Wow. That's a shock. Then again he seemed to have a death wish. Wrestling crocs and the like.

At least Paul Hogan is still with us.

RIP Steve

I must be honest though, I always thought he'd die by falling down stairs or something, so at least a little bugger got him instead.

EDIT:

It's on MSNBC as well now.

Damn, that really sucks. I always thought he was crazy, but I enjoyed his shows nonetheless.

I didn't even know they were dangerous. You always see people swimming with them.
That sucks. I hope his daughter didn't witness it.

Since he was in his very own movie, I wonder if he'll get a mention at the next Oscars when they do the "deaths in the last year" thing. For what he did, he was a pretty big celeb, one of the biggest ever.

Was that his baby that he was holding over the swamp monsters? I'm pretty sure it was. Too bad that little one will never know his dad.

I'm sorry for his/her loss.

This is sad news, but I can't say I'm honestly really surprised. I hate being morbid, but I've thought for awhile that he would probably go this way. As entertaining as he was, he always seemed to take some serious risks while handling animals. He'll be missed

Was he messing with the stingray like he was prone to doing in a hazardous way or was it really a random accident?

Either way it's sad news. He seemed like a cool guy.

Yes indeed he was the guy dangling his spawn over said swamp monsters.

This is sad news. I liked Steve a lot. He did great things for animals and the zoo they ran was top notch. My heart goes out to his family. Like has been said, at least he died doing what he loved to do.

Sad event, but at least he was able to live his life in the way he wanted. Still sucks, but beat being stuck in a cubicle.
