The Future of Google

CNNMoney.com has an interesting article about four possible futures for Google:

Google is the media
Google is the Internet
Google is dead
Google is God

I think these are in descending order of likelihood -- I really don't see Google being rendered obsolete by failing to adopt to SEOs and new ideas from Microsoft, of all places... and I really don't think we'll see the Google Engine evolving into some kind of all-knowing, all-caring AI as well. But I could definitely see the first two scenarios happening... and some other possible futures as well...

I frankly think it would be a mistake for Google to grow much bigger and expand its scope beyond what it has today. Google is synonymous with searching and referencing, and I think there is a lot of growth room within that sector, especially with the move to include all media and content. I think Google will at some point coordinate with major content providers to create a better, more inclusive browser, one that breaks free from the shackles of HTML and scripting... but that's just one guess.

What do you see as the future of Google?

NOTE: I posted this in Other instead of in Tech Talk because I see Google as being more common-interest, more eponymous. I'm hopeful that this discussion will stay fairly non-technical.

Google = Skynet. We'll all be running from Google Hunter-Seekers in a few years.

If Google wants to get into content providing (which they seem to) they're going to have to hire some designers. Google Video looks like something on a Geocities page circa 1996.

They don't seem to have a clear focus, which could hurt them. They're doing a lot of stuff and some of it just isn't very good (Google Talk, Google Pack, Google Video).

Maybe they are going for the retro look.

Yeah, but that's easy enough to deal with. You just need to have a robots.txt file with:

Code:
User-agent: googlebot
Disallow: kill/humans/all
