So Oregonians are dumber than people from Arkansas. I guess the results are not too surprising.

SC at #29? Victory! I never see us rank as anything higher than 48 at anything unless "worst" is in the title of the poll.

I thought this thread would contain a list of the smartest states and a list of the dumbest states.

All the way from dumb state #26:

#2 smartest state for me!
This reminds me I was watching Frontline (hey I do live in the second smartest state after all! ) and they were showing a map of the US and displaying which states had the highest percentages of obese people. You guessed it, the midwest and the south were the clear standouts (echoing my first hand experience from living in Indiana for a few months).

Wow. That's interesting.

I think I can venture a guess why Arizona is last on that list, but I'd likely be deemed a racist.

How did Arizona come out below the traditional list-enders of New Mexico, Mississippi, and Louisiana?

I think California should be divided into two states. The south and north are two completely different places.

I can give you 2 reasons. Influx of Hispanics that don't know the language and don't graduate school, thereby increasing dropout rates and illiteracy rates. Also, the same can be said about the Native American population here in Arizona. It's only getting worse.

As usual, these types of "surveys" are all inclusive. They only look at the overall picture.

We're dead center. Just like at everything else, Delaware is completely unremarkable.

Dude, don't take these lists so seriously that you feel the need to rationalize or explain them. You can create a list that sorts the state in any order you care to if you massage the data and criteria enough.

According to this list, it's not much of a problem in Texas which doesn't seem accurate to me.

I wasn't taking it seriously. I was simply explaining the usual criterion for measuring these things. The fact that you'd actually write out that I am taking it too seriously, maybe means you are.
