Need opinions on Marriott Vacation Club!

My wife and I are considering purchasing some weeks at the Marriott Vacation Club.

http://www.vacationclub.com/en-us/default.jsp

Does anyone have any experience with them? Does anyone own any weeks with Marriott or a timeshare in general?

Thanks for the feedback.

Not sure about Marriott itself personally (many hotels are in the timeshare business) but a friend of ours has about 5 or 6 of them through Marriott and seems to enjoy them very much. All I do know is that the secondary market is much, much, much cheaper.

Yes I am aware of this. The problem is that we are looking at a new property so there is no resale market and I am not sure that we could get comparable weeks by buying resale.

great way to get a cheapo rate for 90 minutes of your time

My advice is save your cash and wait for a secondary market. The maintenance fees and the trading fees are the price of 5 days in a hotel room. Plus if you buy new then something like 30% of the purchase price is commission to the sales person

Ok thanks

There are no trading fees and the maintenance fees would not get me two days in places I like to vacation. The secondary market will likely be three years away, by then I will have gotten three years worth of vacations out of it.
