Recommend some killer Weed

Wasn't sure where this topic should lie so here it is. I went to Home Depot yesterday and there were about a dozen and a half different brands/types so I need some help.

What is the best weed killer for getting rid of weeds in the cracks of the driveway/sidewalk?

I use round up for most everything. They have it at Costco this time of year, but only in the huge size. If you just have some weeds in cracks, pick up the spray bottle kind.

I also use Round Up, but keep in mind that it doesn't work right away. It gets sucked into the weed and goes to the root to kill it forever, and that takes a few weeks. Good shit though!

Use a soil sterilant for the cracks. Works for 3 or 4 months. Just dont use it in the yard.

Am I the only one who thought the thread title said "Recommend great killer weed" ?

I've always had good luck with RoundUp then a bunch of kosher salt in the crevices. The salt keeps weeds, or anything for that matter, from sprouting again.

kmcrowl, what is a soil sterilent?

I guess round-up it is. I've seen that "extended control" commercial many times but am always leary of how well they actually work, and how much is marketing.

There is no better help than dvdtalk help.

A soil sterilent prevents any new seeds from germinating for a period of time. Ortho Triox is typically good for a year. Good for weeds in driveway cracks, don't use someplace you want to grow grass or flowers.

Round-up kills a growing weed, and may affect germination for a week or two, but after just a short while, new seeds will germinate.

Both are non-selective, they kill whatever they hit

Other herbicides only target certain classes of weeds (like broadleaf) or they prevent germination, but don't affect growing plants (Preen)

Damn right!

I found that kosher salt is less abrasive on the joints (no pun intended) and more effective than road salt.

BTW, I got the paraquat pun.

What is good for weeds growing in grass (bermuda), not in sidewalks or areas where you want to kill everything? What does Chemlawn use? I lay down weed & feed fertilizer, but still get some weeds here and there in the summer.

Ortho Weed B Gone is good for broadleaf weeds in (northern) grass. I don't know if it is ok with Bermuda grass -- check the label.
