Man attacked trooper with chain saw

I think it should be obvious to everyone that this was unjustified and just another example of the police systematically killing off people who own chainsaws. I certainly hope they revise their stupid policies and make it so that the police don't shoot at someone just simply because they are trying to dismember another officer.

---

WILKES-BARRE, Pennsylvania (AP) -- A man was shot and killed by police Monday after he ignored pepper spray and officers' commands and attacked a state trooper with a chain saw, authorities said.

At least 13 bullets struck William Henkle after state and local officers who had surrounded him opened fire, police said.

Henkle, 40, allegedly struck Trooper Michael Hartzel in the shoulder, lower back and buttocks with the saw. The trooper was treated for minor injuries at a hospital and released.

Henkle called 911 early Monday and said he was having a heart attack, but when police and an ambulance arrived, he was outside the house with the chain saw running, said Capt. Kenneth Hill, commander of the state police barracks at Wyoming.

About 10 state and local officers formed a semicircle around Henkle and ordered him to drop the chain saw, but he revved the saw and refused to put it down, Hill said.

Police said they used pepper spray, then fired when Henkle lunged at Hartzel.

I think they need new policy that states if they are lunged at with a deadly weapon, the course of action is to get out of the way of the weapon and only fire it their life is in imminent danger.

Id feel a lot safer if we made people get a license to own chainsaws. A license that requires a waiting period and background check. I bet this guy has a long criminal history of chasing cops with chainsaws.

It sounds like someone had a suicide motive.

That or, or he wanted to place the lotion in the basket.

The troopers brought his attack on themselves by yelling at him. They should have just minded their own business.

A chainsaw attack led to the trooper being treated for minor injuries at a hospital and released?

I've never learned how to "ignore" pepper spray. Also, the article makes it sound like the cop on the scene notices a guy with a chainsaw, and then calls for a cavalry back-up. I think we're missing more pieces of the story--like so many others.

Gotta bounce it off the house first for maximum effect. Of course, that would take out everyone in the vicinity.

I think the prudent thing to do would be for the officers to shoot the chainsaw out of his hand.

Thats what normal officers do.
