So my friends don't want me to kill their dog.

My wife and I went out to dinner with some friends for her birthday. They turn to another friend and ask him if he will come out and shoot their dog. It is essentially a mercy killing. I interrupt and ask why I was not asked. They basically say that they know I don't have the heart to be able to do it.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

ME?

I could have killed their dog just fine

Why would you want to kill the dog when someone else can do it?

maybe they figured you wouldn't be interested since it's a 'mercy' killing.

Why don't they just bring the dog to a vet and have it put to sleep? The dog would die in less pain than being shot.

They probably consider you a mercenary dog killer, a mercy kill is just too far below your skills.

p.s-shoot their healthy dog if it makes you feel better.

I'd kill another pet of theirs, decapitate it, and leave the head in their bed while they are asleep.

That'll show them that you have the heart to do the job.

When they said you didn't have the heart to do it, what they meant was they know you're a cold, heartless bastard, to whom mercy is a foreign language. They actually needed someone with a heart, and you didn't have it.

No, I grilled them on it, and they made it clear. I'm a softy, supposedly.

I will catch up on them this week and see if they had it done. If not, I will offer again. And if it is done, I'll offer to urinate on his grave, just to prove to them how manly I am.

Cool!! The more anguish you can cause to hose hippies the better!!!!

There should be a group of people that hates the abuse of plants (also living things) and go protest outside of PETA headqueaters since they are probably all vegitarians. Lets call it PETP!

Something tells me it wouldn't have been a "one shot deal" if you had gotten to do it.

Actually, though pretty damned disgusting, I would have used a shotgun at close range. The clean up and trauma on my part would have sucked, but that would have been best for the dog, or at least the most sure way to ensure he didn't suffer.

I may have wussed out on that, though. Killing an animal at close range with a shotgun is pretty disgusting. Shooting birds at long range with a shotgun seems pretty cruel as well, though. Most of the time it is a clean kill, but there are many times the bird is just hurt badly. That sucks.

Ohhh, I just gave myself the "creepies".

You could shoot the dog with a 12-gauge shotgun slug at close range.

I've been called up by neighbors / relatives to "put to sleep" various animals, though I've never used a gun (hard to use a gun in town), though I always did it very quickly, I also hate seeing a wounded animal or seeing an animal suffering.
