Isn't it funny that a flush is better than a straight?

Playing online poker, I think we've all seen flushes hit a LOT more than straights. 5/1, 10/1, maybe more.

OK, OK, I know that statistically a flush is harder to get, and the only reason we see so many is that people "chase" them.

But it still seems wrong sometimes...

The reason why you see more flushes hit is that people are more willing to draw to them. If you are 4 to a flush, it is far easier (odds are better) to stick around and try to draw to the flush than it is if you are 4 to a straight, whether inside or outside.

I dunno about "far easier". If you hit 4 to a flush on the flop, you still have 9 cards that will give you the flush from that point forward.

If you hit an open-ended straight draw, you have 8 cards (4 on each end) that will help you.

Gutshots are a different story. If you're chasing gutshots without proper pot odds or implied pot odds (which is usually the case) you're just a moron.

If you have an outside straight, 8 cards can help you.

in 3 card poker, straights are harder to get than flushes, and the payouts reflect that.

The beauty of flushes is that you can't split pot with a flush a huge majority of the time.

It pisses me off to no end when someone playing 93 suited beats my flopped AQ two-pair though. But in the end, I get their money anyway.
