Sure Fire way to double your money

When you see something you want to buy take out your money and fold it in half then put it back in your pocket. My grampa taught me this.

Is it because instead of losing the money you would spend, you are keeping it, thus you have x amount of dollars instead of -x dollars and x - (-x) = 2x ?

Or is it becuase you folded it in half so it looks like twice as much if you only hold the one end out?

Or it is magic?!

I'm not sure it's the first explanation. If you spent the money you would have -x dollars. Instead of that you now have x dollars. While that is twice what you started with, it's not twice what you would have had had you purchased the thing you wanted. In fact, if -x * y = x, then y = -1, so you have actually multiplied what you would have by negative one. So basically, if you want to lose everything you have or gain everything you lose, you can follow this advice or not.

Some glasses are half empty, while at the same time half full. Just because you acknowledge both sides of the issue doesn't mean that you are indecisive. Some would call that wisdom. Those people would probably call the glass "Frederique."
