Moral Dilemna

I had to venture out of lurkerdom to post this. Brilliant!

You are driving down the road in your car on a wild, stormy night, when you pass by a bus stop and you see three people waiting for the bus:_

1. An old lady who looks as if she is about to die._

2. An old friend who once saved your life._

3. The perfect partner you have been dreaming about.

Which one would you choose to offer a ride to, knowing that there could_only be one passenger in your car?__ Think before you continue reading.

This is a moral/ethical dilemma that was once actually used as part of a job application._
-You could pick up the old lady, because she is going to die, and thus you should save her first._

-Or you could take the old friend because he once saved your life, and this would be the perfect chance to pay him back._

-However, you may never be able to find your perfect mate again._

The candidate who was hired (out of 200 applicants) had no trouble coming up with his answer.

He simply answered: "I would give the car keys to my old friend and let him take the lady to the hospital. I would stay behind and wait for the bus with
the partner of my dreams."

Sometimes, we gain more if we are able to give up our stubborn thought limitations.

Never forget to "Think Outside of the Box."_

Let me stop you right there ... is she wearing a light-colored shirt? It is stormy out, so this is important.

So the best answer is to pay back your friend by making him take a sick old lady to the hospital, while you hang out and mack on the chick? Classy.

Dude, he's the President of Otterville. You Lurkerdom people need to get your own leader (good luck on your election turnout).

Huh-huh ... he said "contituents"

If it would make you happy, though, I've considered invading AICN. I have unconfirmed reports they are harboring weapons of mass annoyance.

I was pretty brutal come to think of it ... I picked the old friend because the old lady is , well, old. She had to die sooner or later. The way I read it though I thought that all three were going to die and you had to choose the one to live. THat way my answer kidna makes sense. If it's only raining and all they had to do was wait for the bus I'd pick the old lady for the ride. I gotta admit, I didn't even think of sending my car off and staying with the girl.

It makes for a more interesting ethical dilemna if all three were going to die and you have the power to pick one to live.

So, by extension, I can just declare myself to be President of Lurkerdom. See, if someone comes out of Lurkerdom to vote against me it means that they aren't lurkers anymore and are thus disqualified from voting since only lurkers can vote for the President of Lurkerdom.

Wouldn't that mean you just disqualified yourself?

Run the old lady down to put her out of her misery, bang the chick at the bus stop, then hop in the car with my friend and go get some beers.

That's the right answer, isn't it?

Since it was for a job interview I probably would have answered, "I wouldn't pick up anyone if I was in the company car."
But, then I'm a cynic.
