fedex/ups and parking tickets

Do these guys and all other businesses that deliver in downtown areas just accept parking tickets as a cost of doing business?

Does the driver have to pay?

I thought delivery vehicles were exempt from most parking tickets since they're usually in and out fast. I know when I delivered pizza the cop would see it was you and not write up the ticket.

I think I read/heard that FedEx had so many parking tickets in NYC that they just paid the city a flat amount and Bloomberg wiped out all of the tickets.

Also since NYC doesn't have alleys or an underground network (like Chicago), parking on the street illegally is inevitable.

I thnk they should cut these guys some slack, (which they probably do). They are just doing their job, and they wont be parked there for long.

UPS does pay a flat fee for all parking tickets in New York City. It was several million dollars per year. New York City and most corporate fleets came to this agreement based on the size of the fleet in NYC. It basically put a dollar amount where both sides believed they were at a advantage. The city did not have write tickets and the comapnies did not have to fight many tickets in the courts.

It was this way about 4-5 years ago to our Inside UPS magazine.

it's a valid point
UPS/Fedex/other delivery companies are important in keeping the economy going, therefore they should get a break. besides, the truck is usually there less than 10 minutes

Well, most cities have "loading zones" that are precisely designed for these businesses. But, of course, in NYC those zones are ALWAYS full...
