What was the big internet scam again?

You know the one... the one where all those people lost all their money? It was a few years ago. People were posting chat logs with people freaking out cuz some company tanked and they lost all their money. What the hell was it? It's driving me crazy.

Someone must know. It wasn't a big corp like MCI or Global Crossing. It was some sort of online offer that you could "get in on" and make a bunch of money, but it went sour. The letters from people who sank their life savings into it and lost all were really nuts. Anyone?

What was the site where everything was free after rebate, but you had to pay like $1000 upfront for $10 of shit. People that got in at the end got stiffed.

That's the one! What was it called? It was really nuts. People would buy useless crap at HUGE markups (DVDs for $250...) and then get checks. The company was investing th emoney short term and you'd supposedly end up getting stuff for free. You can guess what happened.

Last I heard nothing really happened to the owners. Theres' currently a suit that's going to court where people can be reimbursed a tiny amount of their losses from the sale of confiscated property.

There's a support group on yahoo or msn groups. Some got into foolish amounts of money and lost it all. A couple people went bankrupt. Really sad tale of greed from both sides.

I think the FW "Morris" one was worth. Todd Short I think was the ring leader. It was a few years ago, and the federal sentencing just went down about 6 months ago.

Anybody remember that shit Barnes and Noble pulled when Flooz went down? They took orders (and DVDTalkers were sounding the alarm) took the Flooz out of your account and when Flooz when bankrupt, cancelled the orders. Man that was a shitstorm. Most DVDTalkers get their orders for free because BN realized they were in a world of hurt (and dare I say legally responsible because they took an accepted form of payment and deducted your account)

Cyberrebate

I still can't imagine anyone went for that. Or worse yet, paid with a revolving credit card. The interest you would pay on your CC waiting for your rebate would negate any deal you got.

What morans.

I did cyberrebates before it got out of hand. I got Quake for free from there when it first came out.

I did cyberrebate in the very beginning, but towards the end the stuff started getting high dollar, which was a bad sign.

ps. Flooz! Haven't heard that in awhile.
