If, hypothetically, you had expressed an intention to revise your answers -- perhaps because I clarified something in this thread or in a PM -- you might want to remember to do that. Alternately, you could not do that and we could all mock you when I post the results.

I did get yours. I did not get a revision from a certain someone who said in this very thread that he was going to send me a revision. Hypothetically, it might be someone who has run a sheep game or two in the past.

I had 3 considerations - that judge, a judge recently passed over, and the judge I've likely mentioned most in this forum since 2005.

Let's say one of the Sheep questions was "Name a President depicted on Mt. Rushmore." There are four correct answers -- George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Teddy Roosevelt.

Now, let's say somebody sent in "Abraham Jefferson" as their answer.

My first inclination was to count that as wrong (since it's a sheep question, that just means it wouldn't match anything). A little disappointing to those people who answered with Lincoln or Jefferson and would have had one more match, but it is what it is.

However, there have been three people who sent in ambiguous answers. In each case, I have PM'ed the person and said "You need to be more specific in your answer to _____________."

So is it unfair of me to just mark the Abraham Jefferson answer as wrong when I've given people who said ambiguous things a chance to clarify? After all, "Abraham Jefferson" is not wrong in the way that, say "Jimmy Carter" would be. Carter is not on Mount Rushmore. It's a wrong answer. On the other hand, the person who said Abraham Jefferson probably meant either Lincoln or Jefferson, either one of which would be a right answer.

I think the answer is that there's a difference between ambiguous and wrong, so it's not unfair of me to treat the two differently. But I guess you can all take this as an opportunity to double-check the answers you sent me to make sure you don't have your own "Abrahm Jefferson" situation.
I'm late to the game on this one, but IMO even if "Jefferson" would be a right answer and a match for someone who said "Thomas Jefferson", "Abraham Jefferson" is a wrong answer and not a match. I believe that this is how Jeopardy does it, FWIW. If the correct answer (excuse me, correct question) is "Who is Thomas Jefferson", they give credit for "Who is Jefferson" but would give a wrong answer to "Who is Abraham Jefferson". If "Jefferson" is ambiguous in the context of the question (let's say there were two presidents named Jefferson), they would ask for the contestant to be more specific.

I don't hang out in this forum much, so I wasn't sure on this (and a few other questions) whether I should count on lots of knowledge or not (for ex., the least known president question). For the president question, I counted on lots of knowledge, but that may have been a mistake!

You obviously weren't around in Sports Sheep for the "George Frazier" incident.

Nope, I wasn't, though it's hard to avoid constant references to it.

I went with a passed over one. Though I am not sure if my most known judge is the same as yours, and for obvious reasons.

Regardless, I am sure I will be on an island.

I think if this was sheep for lawyers, there is a federal judge that would clearly stand out - the one I believe Lurker is referencing. Given your background and what that judge is known for, your most known judge may just be that judge.

Well, the affected person declined to change his answer, so it's getting marked as wrong and will be showcased for the whole forum to see. Prepare to lose respect for an esteemed contributor to the forum who previously had a reputation for extreme smartitudity.

The judge question is definitely one where I overestimated the forum's knowledge. We did get some funny answers out of it, so all is not lost.

You probably would have had better luck by asking for law professors. More people have probably heard of Tribe and Epstein than federal judges not on the SCt.

If you asked for professors, I would think many people would go with Obama.

You've never heard of Lawrence Tribe?

Richard Epstein - I post some of his stuff here - he's libertarian.

Yeah, I was thinking active professors, but that would probably be a default answer anyhow.

I would like to see future renditions of sheep require right answers for questions where there are clear right and wrongs.

I was vilified, (that might be a just a bit of hyperbole, but close), for suggesting that wrong sheep answers be given a point penalty.
