I actually got the question wrong. I said Chester A Arthur, but he wasn't elected to the Presidency. Just realized that now. Then again, he was elected to the vice presidency so technically it fits the question :P

Having read that didn't hurt, (I actually looked through it again recently after you mentioned reading it), but the fact that I come from Ohio also helped greatly.

Coolidge succeeded to the presidency in 1923 upon the death of President Harding, stood for re-election in 1924, and chose not to run in 1928 (in that respect, he was similar to the second President Johnson, although the circumstances of their decisions not to run for a second full term were obviously quite different).
