Coldplay - Moon Music

A new album is coming in Oct

Are they now more popular overseas than in America right now?

Insert your own pun

Coldplay have announced the release of their tenth studio album, “Moon Music,” slated for release on October 4.
The album’s first single, “feelslikeimfallinginlove,” is due this
Friday. The album is produced by Max Martin, who has worked with everyone from Britney Spears and the Weeknd to Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande. The album is the group’s first since 2021’s “Music of the Spheres.”

"The album's physical release will set new sustainability standards. It will be the world's first album released as a 140g EcoRecord LP, with each copy made from 9 recycled PET-plastic bottles recovered from post-consumer waste."

Even their last bunch of album covers have gotten wimpy.

I don't think they ever had a tough looking cover

In all seriousness, I always found this album cover sort of badass.

The album cover for A Rush of Blood to the Head was designed by photographer Sølve Sundsbø. Sundsbø had been hired by fashion magazine Dazed & Confused in the late 1990s to produce a shot with a "technological feel, something all white", according to himself. As an artist, Sundsbø attempted to do a unique original piece, creating a shot that had never been seen before; He suggested taking shots using a three-dimensional scanning machine – used to measure head sizes for USAF fighter jet helmets – to fulfil his vision.[24]

The model for the shots, named Mim, wore all-white cosmetic makeup, along with a coloured twill cape, to aesthetically produce optimal and desired results. The scanner could not properly identify some of the colors on the cape, so they were replaced with digital spikes, and the head in the image was chopped as the machine was unable to scan more than about thirty centimeters in height at a time.[25] At first, Sundsbø had mixed feelings about the image, stating that when he first saw the result, he was terrified. "I thought it was so beautiful, but I was sure the magazine was never going to run it." The editor of the magazine, however, absolutely loved the image, and eventually featured it in one of their publications. After seeing the image in a publication of the magazine, Chris Martin approached Sundsbø for proper permission to use the image as the cover of A Rush of Blood to the Head. For the album's singles, Martin asked Sundsbø for any ideas; Sundsbø suggested scanning the head of each member of the band.[24]

The album booklet contains only two photos; One with Coldplay in a location that was rumoured to be a forest, and one with the band in a recording studio. The album cover was among the ten chosen by the Royal Mail for a set of "Classic Album Cover" postage stamps issued in January 2010.

Not "tough", but at least non-wimpy. As Decker pointed out, "A Rush of Blood to the Head" is a cool looking cover. And even Parachutes was decent.
Now they have a lot of colorful album covers, and even one with angel wings. I guess it fits their more recent music.

Viva La Vida had a decent cover though that song is boring.

Michael J. Fox is still a fan?

Their new single

I admit I kind of like it and don't think it is that bad

He probably has more material for a new album after the breakup with Dakota Johnson but should not feel bad since he will probably find a new hottie to replace her.

Is this a new low performing on QVC?

Just got a pre-sale invite. They are going to play Allegiant Stadium in June. Did not take Coldplay, especially this version of Coldplay as a Stadium bands, but that's what they're doing.
Kind of a shame -- thought they'd be a great Sphere act even if I can no longer stand them. It would have been hard for me to pass them up at the Sphere given their older music I liked. But at a Stadium? That's an easy pass for me.

Anyone else notice that since Viva la Vida, the members have dressed very similarly? Almost like they're wearing a uniform of similar styles and change styles at the same time.

They haven't done arenas in years. They've been selling out stadiums worldwide since the pandemic so it's not a surprise they are doing that here. They are a massive international draw. I'm not a big fan and agree that a stadium probably isn't the best fan experience but it makes sense from a business aspect. It's kind of a limit North America run too.

Yeah, they're doing a lot of stadiums globally on their tours.
This is them in Buenos Aires in 2023 (the stadium seats 84,000):

They added a second stadium show in Vegas. I'm pretty stunned but I guess they have a big following.

Joined the Gillette queue for this morning because my cousin wanted tickets. I was 191,678 when let in to the queue. The presale didn’t require a code so it was open to all but still that’s a ton of folk. Nothing available by the time I got to the sale. Nashville was through SeatGeek so no number but over an hour to get in. That one did require a code. All that was left was one ticket in the very upper section. She got five of us on the job plus her friends have their family trying. I think they ended up with 10 tickets scattered through Gillette. Apparently they aren’t worried about having too many tickets because they can find someone to take it. Millennials. Plus resales are already insane. Of course this is the peak but $1,759 for Coldplay in a Stadium (lower level seats)? Not for me Clive.

My wife tonight “I’m so glad, but kind of surprised, that you’re not making me go to that show with you”.

I told her I used to really like them, but that was a long time ago and hate the new stuff so much I didn’t want to have to wait through it to get to the good songs.

That explains why they are performing at Stanford Stadium on 5/31/25 and not the Chase Center, SAP Center, Shoreline, or the Oakland Coliseum if that shitty city has any relevance for big events.

They are too big to perform in arenas?

Yes. Why sell 18-20k tickets when you can sell 60-70k? People will travel to see them.

Chris Martin continues to get the hot celebrity GFs and probably the best one he has gotten so far.

Sophie Turner 28 while he is 48.
