And then they went out of their way to promote stuff like The Mentors who was just obscure as fuck until they read the lyrics to "Golden Showers" into the congressional record and made them more famous and infamous than they ever would have been on their own.

Spoiler:
Agreed, although I think the music that came out of the band, quite inadvertently and no doubt much to Malcolm's chagrin, was excellent and influential. But yeah, making music was never the original intent of the band. It just ended up being a happy accident, mostly courtesy of Steve, Paul, and Glen.

Still, leave it Zappa to release an instrumental album that gets labeled for having explicit lyrics.

Re: What's your Unpopular Music Opinion?
I listened to the Filthy Fifteen while playing my Arcade machine (get a good 80's feeling) and drinking a couple of beers yesterday and it dawned on me that some of these are some really weird picks.
My House by Mary Jane Girls. What?
Dress You Up by Madonna. Um...ok.
We're Not Gonna Take It and High 'n' Dry??? Really?
I mean, a few of the other titles I can slightly understand just because they were (are) fucking prudes. But a few of these are non-sensical.
It's just strange what people find offensive or want to lose their minds over sometimes.
I wonder how many times Tipper masturbated to "Sugar Walls" so she could completely know and understand all the lyrics so she could condemn it?

The FILTHY FIFTEEN... spoilered for length...
Some of these are kind of funny when you think about it... "We're Not Gonna Take It" is completely innocuous, and "Trashed" by Black Sabbath is an anti-drunk driving song. And "In My House" doesn't seem much different than mainstream stuff from the 60s and 70s that you'd hear from bands like Fleetwood Mac or The Eagles.

The Venom and Mercyful Fate choices are hilarious, not for the lyrics (Fate had even worse lyrics on that album) but for the idea that most people had even heard of them, let along listen to their music. Both were on independent labels which chain record stores usually ignored, neither received much if any radio play, and they certainly weren't going to be on MTV or played at Tipper's gym.
I would have thought a few of Zappa's tracks (Bobby Brown Goes Down, Titties and Beer, among others) would have better served their point.

Is this list just for rock or music in general? Reason being, David Allan Coe could fill one up all on his own.
Not that I really listened to him outside of a couple of his mainstream songs, but some of the titles alone should be enough to warrant inclusion to a list.

The quote by Lawrence Welk at the end...."And there you heard a modern spiritual by Gayle and Dale."
The squares really are so square they have zero awareness...other than the accordion player as Toby mentioned. Fantastic!

The weirdest thing about that video, to me (and I've seen it on other clips from that show as well) is the studio audience applause over the end of the song, about 2 seconds before they are done singing. I guess it's done in post to speed things up, but it's SO weird. No real audience would ever clap at that point -- it's like an audience full of psychics.

It's like when Eric Cartman started a Christian rock band; all you gotta do is add "Jesus" to the lyrics and people will think it's a Christian song.

Still find it funny that this song was featured on the Lawrence Welk Show.
The accordion player knew it shouldn't have been. He knew ...

Maybe Post Modern Jukebox can do it.

The PMRC didn't try very hard. Frank Zappa's I Promise Not To Come In Your Mouth and AC/DC's Let Me Put My Love Into You and Giving The Dog A Bone are as romantic as the song titles suggest.
If they just listed Frank Zappa songs the hearings would still be going on.

Prog is boring and pointless - no one gives a shit that you can play a song in 13/16 signature over 7/8 polyrhythm!

Re: What's your Unpopular Music Opinion?
Because of the universal fundamentals of music, all music is basically the same with slight variations.
Arguing about preference over those variations is boring.
And my preferred variations are the best.

I like that. More or less that there's no such thing as "bad or good music"...just different tastes.
