Pretty sweet opening night setlist. Was sure Ghosts would be the first song but was totally fine with No Surrender considering the shit the world's been through since The Boss last took the stage.

Nice that Kitty's Back was in there.

The first shows of his tour are generally pretty locked and open up (and get longer) later on down the road. Still, 2 hours and 43 minutes as a short Bruce Springsteen show is still longer than most acts do these days.

This will be the first tour I am looking to download each show as they are released. I have all the achieve releases save for some of The River revival tour considering how locked that set was to that entire album each night.

Really, since reunion tour, huh?

That was my FIRST Springsteen show. I've never looked back. That live version of the River with Clarence sax intro gave me chills. Also, that super long 10th Avenue Freeze Out!

My first Springsteen show setlist:
  1. The Ties That Bind
  2. Prove It All Night
  3. Two Hearts
  4. Darkness on the Edge of Town
  5. Darlington County
  6. Mansion on the Hill
  7. The River
  8. Youngstown
  9. Murder Incorporated
  10. Badlands
  11. Out in the Street
  12. Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out
  13. Working on the Highway
  14. The Ghost of Tom Joad
  15. Born in the U.S.A. (Acoustic)
  16. Backstreets
  17. Light of Day
  18. Bobby Jean
  19. Born to Run
  20. Thunder Road
  21. If I Should Fall Behind
  22. Land of Hope and Dreams
  23. Ramrod

This is the first time in a while that Thunder Road wasn't played.

re: Bruce Springsteen - 2023-2024 World Tour / “Only The Strong Survive” - soul covers album

I saw the Tunnel of Love tour at the L.A. Sports Arena whenever that was. 1989? Greatest concert I have ever seen in my life, no question.
Then I saw the very first concert ever held at Conceco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Nov 1999. They didn't know how to set it up for sound and it was really muddy audio. A few weeks later Billy Joel joked that "even basketball sounds bad in this Arena". So that was a little disappointing.
I had tickets for the 2002 Tour, also in Indianapolis, but the show got delayed when Clarence Clemons needed eye surgery. They rescheduled to a date that I couldn't make, since my mom was having a party in L.A. on that day.
I moved to Vegas in 2003. Springsteen played Vegas last in 2002. He's NEVER been back, no matter how the city has kind of become the entertainment capital of the world in the ensuing 20 years. Very weird.
Finally with this tour I decided if he wasn't going to travel for me, I would have to travel for him.

My attitude, after the loss of Danny and Clarence, we're not going to have much Bosstime left. I'm hoping this isn't the last tour but it could be. Gotta' be on that train if it is the last carnival.

I was definitely feeling jealous and FOMO. Didn’t want to wait until next month to see a show. Got a ticket for Dallas on Friday.

Awesome. Looking forward to your review.

The recordings have started to drop on the archives. The Boss still puts on a rocking time!

re: Bruce Springsteen - 2023-2024 World Tour / “Only The Strong Survive” - soul covers album

Went to the Dallas show. It was great to be back after 6.5 years since the last time I saw them (but luckily I had the chance to go to Broadway twice, various events on the book tour, and the Blinded by the Light premiere).

I'm younger than most on these boards. I would say prior to my first show, I would've considered myself a "greatest hits fan". My first show was in 2008 at Giants Stadium... 23rd row on the floor. After that, I was blown away. I wanted to go back the next night (but couldn't). From then on, I went to as many shows as I could. By August 2016, I had been to 25. Going to those shows was such a big part of my life, so being in that arena back for my 26th was surreal. My life has changed significantly in the time since the last show.

It's made the news, but Stevie and Soozie weren't at the show due to COVID. I heard Nils tested positive today. I would not be surprised if a show gets postponed. There was some drama on Twitter with Nil's and Stevie's wives about how it spread within the camp.

Jake was finally moved into Clarence's position on stage and I've never seen Garry be as animated as he was here. They had to step up.

I've seen a lot of people complain about the setlist being static. It's only been 5 shows! My only complaint is the section with the 2 cover songs wedged between Kitty and ESS. It just seems like a lull. But regardless, I had a blast. I'm looking forward to the rest of the dates I have tickets for. I would imagine the set will open up a little more by the end of the arena run prior to Europe. I appreciated that there wasn't a lot of time being wasted on antics like pulling kids up on stage.

Regarding tickets, there were A LOT of tickets released for this show the week leading up to and the day of. Many were near the stage priced at $405, they sat there for a while. I was surprised at how many tickets were held back for a show in this market. If you wanted to just get in, resale tickets were down to the teens. It is the same in other markets... Houston... Tulsa... you can find resale tickets for dirt cheap. I don't think there will be a problem for people to find cheap tickets closer to the shows outside of the east coast area. I got my ticket from someone who apparently paid dynamic or premium priced and then couldn't go and sold it for like $400 less than what they paid. Then they ended up being able to go, bought a ticket a few rows closer, and asked me to swap back so they could be with their friend. So I ended up being like 7 rows up on the side. I would've liked to have gotten a GA. They released some at 4pm day of the show, but I didn't think I'd be able to resell and make my money back on the ticket I already had.

Ugh that would be awful if my show in 13 days gets rescheduled due to Covid. I have plane tickets, hotel rooms, day off work. Shit. One new thing to worry about.

I can only see them cancelling if Bruce wouldn’t do the show. I can’t see how he doesn’t test positive given that he’s sharing mics with two people who have tested positive. I wouldn’t be too worried about Portland. Though I am curious to see what happens with Houston.

Shitty about Steve and Souzi. Do they have to sit out two weeks of the tour now or just until they get a negative test?

As for the stagnant setlist, this is pretty common Bruce. The first part of the tour he generally sticks to a format. By the middle it loosens up and by the end it gets to close to four hours every night is very different.

Sweet. here's hoping some Canadian dates. Alas, Canada doesn't have a lot of spots where these big name acts go: Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal are usual. Bruce has played Ottawa, though, including a great night on the Devils and Dust tour where the arena was struck by lightening and all the lights went out. Bruce's mic still worked which lead to some great banter and a perfect lead in to I Wish I Was Blind.

Just downloaded some opening night in Tampa and then Atlanta and will fire off the first show over lunch. Usually I don't check out the setlist so it's a surprise listen but I do know some of the tunes showing up here. Still, I hear the recording sound is pretty fantastic.

Bruce Springsteen Pens Original Song ‘Addicted to Romance’ for Rebecca Miller’s Berlin Opener ‘She Came to Me’

Bruce Springsteen has penned an original song for Rebecca Miller’s new film “She Came to Me,” which will have its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival this week.

The song, “Addicted to Romance,” was written and performed by Springsteen, and will be heard by audiences for the first time during the movie’s Feb. 16 screening, when it plays over the end credits.

Romantic comedy “She Came to Me” stars Peter Dinklage as a moody classical composer struggling with writer’s block. When he meets a quirky tugboat captain (Marisa Tomei), he finds the muse for his next opus and is encouraged by his therapist wife (Anne Hathaway) to make his big comeback. But just as his career looks to take off, his personal life implodes.

Discussing how she came to work with Springsteen, Miller explained that she previously had The Boss’s “Dancing in the Dark” as part of her last film “Maggie’s Plan,” which starred Greta Gerwig, Ethan Hawke and Julianne Moore.

“I really love Bruce’s music. For the end of ‘She Came to Me,’ we wanted an original song,” said Miller. “I had a secret wish it might be Bruce, but I was reluctant to ask because I felt it was so unlikely, and frankly I was a bit shy.

“[Composer] Bryce Dessner encouraged me to ask — he was sure Bruce would love the film, so I approached him. Bruce and [his wife Patti Scialfa] ended up watching the film, and, to my delight, they both loved it! Bruce said he’d take a few days to see if anything came to him for a song. Miraculously, ‘Addicted to Romance’ was the result. He says he was inspired by the film, which is a great honor for me.”

“Addicted to Romance” was produced by Ron Aniello and Dessner. Orchestrated by Dessner and mixed by David Chalmin, “Addicted to Romance” is backed with vocals by Patti Scialfa, Benjamin Lanz on Trombone and Kyle Resnick on Trumpet.

With music by Dessner — the Grammy Award-winning classical composer and founding member of the band The National — the movie’s pioneering film score blurs the lines between non-diegetic and diegetic music, and includes two elaborate original opera scenes.

“She Came to Me” was produced by Damon Cardasis, Pamela Koffler, Christine Vachon, Rebecca Miller, Len Blavatnik and Anne Hathaway. Protagonist Pictures are handling international sales and CAA are representing the U.S.

Dessner added: “Collaborating with Rebecca Miller on her new film ‘She Came to Me’ was one of the most rewarding and creative experiences I have had working on a film. It is rare for a composer to be deeply involved in a film prior to shooting, and to get to work so closely with Rebecca on two on-screen operas and the score – which are integral to the narrative of the movie – was thrilling for me. In addition to that it has been a lifelong dream of mine to collaborate directly with Bruce Springsteen and I was so honored to help produce and orchestrate his song ‘Addicted to Romance’ for the movie.”

I've heard November. Two dates in Toronto and one in Ottawa. But based on when Chicago is rumored (August), I would've thought they'd go to Toronto in a stadium around the same time. We'll see...

Where are you again?

That would be amazing.
I'm listening to the Tampa recording now. Outside of some struggling on higher/longer notes, boss sounds great and the band amazing.
That transition from the end note of Candy's Room into Kitty's Back was faaaaaantastic! I've not heard that before.

My only wishes for this tour was:
No Waiting on a Sunny Day
Working some Wild/Innocent tunes into the set
and
retire the "Viagra taking" line in the band introductions.

. . . well, as a wise sage named Meat Loaf once sang, two out of three ain't bad.

It sounds like Montreal, Vancouver, and Edmonton are other Canadian dates. Announcement could be tomorrow.
