RIP Jonny Z

Jon Zazula, co-founder of Megaforce Records with his wife Marsha, who passed away last year, was one of the pioneers of the 80s metal scene. Megaforce was the home to Metallica, Anthrax, SOD, Testament, Manowar, Overkill, and others.

rip.

He had a good ear and foresight in the early 1980s.

These type of guys don't seem to really exist anymore in the music niche. (Nowadays guys like this would probably be hustling cryptocurrency type stuff).

Oh man, that sucks, I've listened to many Megaforce records and artists over the years. RIP Jonny.

In hindsight, Jonny Z was smart about signing / managing a few bands based on quality.

In contrast, other labels like Combat, Metal Blade, Roadrunner, etc ... seemed to be based more on signing many bands, hoping a few make it big. (Such as Slayer, Megadeth, Sepultura, etc ...).

Yep, that's definitely Scott Ian.

I read Jonny's biography, Heavy Tales, a couple years ago, it was a good, interesting read.

Can't right now, since I've kinda got a Zappa thing going at the moment, but I'll try to bust it out over the course of the weekend.

I was always puzzled about who "Imperious Rex" were, who had the song "Red Diamonds" on this "From The Megavault" compilation album.

From googling, it appears this was a previous band of Cinderella drummer Fred Coury.
