Sort of. They didn't really change their name, per se, but had to use a different name in America due to there already being a Yazoo in the US. Similar to The Beat (The English Beat), Wham! (Wham UK), or Puffy (Puffy Amiyumi).

In England, they were still and always Yazoo.

Another (tenuous, I know) link is that Yazoo is a county in Mississippi, placing it squarely in the heart of...Dixie.
