Among the artists nominated for the Grammy, but who lost during that interval : Puff Daddy (1998), 50 Cent (2004), Kanye West (2005), Drake (2011), J. Cole and Nicki Minaj (2012), Frank Ocean (2013). Also Kendrick Lamar lost to these guys in 2014.

I just heard this band for the first time a year or so ago on the "80s Underground" podcast on Podomatic. They were the "Underground Nugget of the Week". Yes, it's very 80s, but it's that sub-genre of 80s music that arose from the Southeast US. Bands that infused country into the alternative music. It might not be for everyone, but at least give it a listen if you like that Don Dixon kind of thing.
