Pearl Jam: MTV Unplugged - 10/23/20

First time this is releasing on CD, and the first wide released vinyl version of the album. Looking forward to grabbing a copy.

Pearl Jam to Release 1992 ‘MTV Unplugged’ Session

Set was previously a limited-edition release for Record Store Day last year
Katherine Turman September 10, 2020 2:13 pm

Pearl Jam’s iconic 1992 MTV Unplugged session, previously only a special 2019 Record Store Day release, will be available on vinyl and, for the first time, on CD as well.

The live session lands on the band’s 30th anniversary — Pearl Jam formed in 1990 from the ashes of Mother Love Bone, a band featuring Chris Cornell’s former roommate, singer Andrew Wood.

Pearl Jam’s Unplugged will be released Oct. 23. Preorder both formats here.

Unplugged was recorded a mere three days after completing their first American tour. Pearl Jam traveled to New York to record the stripped-down versions of their Ten album. All seven songs featured in the MTV Unplugged broadcast — “Jeremy,” “Even Flow,” “Alive,” “Black” and “State Of Love and Trust,” “Porch” and “Oceans” — are included.

In other news, Pearl Jam launched an initiative today (Sept. 10) to encourage their fans to join them and take the “Take-Three Pledge: Vote by Mail, Recruit Three Friends, and Don’t Wait.”

Ament, who recently spoke to SPIN about life during the lockdown and more, said in a statement that, “Voting freely and easily is our ultimate right as citizens of these United States. It’s a hard-fought gift from our foremothers and forefathers.”

For more info, go to Pearl Jam’s site, or text PJVotes to 52886.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard any of these. I may have to look into this.

I was literally just thinking today that I should just torrent this audio since it will never get a release. These performances were amazing, and this one in particular is out of this world.

It is weird because I was just looking at my Super Deluxe Edition of "Ten" the other days and noticed it had the MTV Unplugged show on it. I had totally forgotten about it and was really excited to listen to it and then noticed that it is the actual DVD and not the CD. I would have actually preferred having the CD.

I will definitely pick this up! I love "Ten" and basically my heavy listening of Pearl Jam stopped there. I know, I know...they have done some great albums and songs besides Ten but my friends and I always joked that whenever we heard a Pearl Jam song that wasn't on Ten, we realized we would rather be listening to Ten.

I’m honestly surprised it’s taken this long to release. A lot of the other Unplugged performances have been released and this one was popular.

Also date is off by a day. Should be October 23rd.

Digital release? I would totally buy it, but I have no use for CD's or vinyl.

Yep, it’ll be on digital as well.

You could buy it, rip it, then sell it to me for 2 bucks cheaper :)

I've owned this on CD for years (not officially of course).

I'm surprised at the number of these shows that took so long to get released. The R.E.M. shows were done in 1991 and 2001, and weren't released until 2014 ( I still remember getting it for Father's Day that year and absolutely loving it).

Can it be rights issues?

On the other hand, I see the 10,000 Maniacs one at the thrift stores all the time, it must have been an early release.

Will the vinyl be readily available or just at their band store?

I don't see it available for pre-order at Amazon

At the time it seemed like a great way to make a quick buck. Appear on MTV, reap the fame that attracts, put out the performance on an album, boom. Eric Clapton, 10,000 Maniacs, Springsteen. I’m surprised some of these aired and never were released as albums.

Got the DVD that came with the Deluxe Ten Edition & ripped the stereo track.

It's too bad so many of these performances seem to be lost in the ether.

I have:

Alice in Chains Unplugged on DVD and vinyl.
Nirvana Unplugged on DVD and vinyl.
Pearl Jam Unplugged on DVD. (From the "Ten" reissue)
KISS Unplugged on DVD. (On KISSology v3)

I'd really like to have copies (on both DVD and vinyl) of:

Queensryche Unplugged
The Cure Unplugged

One weird thing is just how short so many of these shows are. Pearl Jam and The Cure only did like seven songs. When they're booking bands like that, you'd think they would do a full set. The Cure already had a full catalog of excellent songs, and even though Pearl Jam was only on its first album, they could have thrown in some covers and b-sides and stretched it out to twelve or fifteen songs.

Also sad that Soundgarden never did an Unplugged.

I would like to put in a vote for having the LL Cool J Unplugged released as well. He killed it.

Anybody plunk down their $15 for the 2016 Philly concert film this weekend? It's $10 for Ten Club members and it's great. Watch as much as you want between October 22-25, then you can watch it for 48 hours after that, picking up where you left off until you're done or time is up. Would've preferred an outright purchase option, of course, but I'll take this for a good time this weekend. And wow, it really is an amazing presentation. It's Ten live, plus two more sets for around 3 hours. Multiple cameras, all HD, sound is terrific.

There's a cool limited edition shirt with the set list on the back for sale this weekend only, too.

I was at that show. Grown men cried when they realized Ten was being played.

Yeah, there's a very different sort of eruption when they move into "Alive." It's like, okay, they start with Once, of course they do, it's a "first song." And then Even Flow, wow, a bug hit to kick off the evening. Whitaker, Alive?! That's... that's the track order for... ohmygosh, it's happening...

Great show, having a good night just kicking back and taking it in.

I really like this Unplugged performance, but it’s too bad they didn’t play a longer set. The songs they do perform are all great though, and even early in their career they were a great live band. Probably my second favorite Unplugged show behind Nirvana’s all time classic.

I’ve got the DVD of the performance. Came included in the super deluxe box set of Ten. I don’t think it ever had a release outside of that set.

I did. Specular and was easy enough to save to watch later as well. Glad to support the band, and I now need to get a Ten Club membership too...
