New Order (New Single "Be a Rebel")
 

Huge New Order fan as everyone around here must know by now. But I'm just not sure about this one. It was released today. No news of any full length album anytime soon. This is “o.k". at best. And sounds like a throw away track off of "Music Complete". That guitar starting at the 30 second mark sounds exactly like something off that album. This is even too weak for a B-side IMO. If this truly is the lead off single off an upcoming release, I'm very worried.

When I heard it I commented that it sounds like Coldplay. That's NOT a compliment.

This song and all of Music Complete makes me realize how much they need Peter Hook.

This song? Yes. "Music Complete"? No. That was a great album with or without Hook. Could it have been better with him? Sure, probably. He's one of the greatest bass players of all time. But Tom Chapman is also a great bass player. And even in those big shoes he had to fill, he does a great job.

Has anyone been listening to Transmissions, the Joy Division/New Order podcast? Three episodes in and it's been pretty good so far.

While I thought this song was o.k. at best when first released, it has really grown on me over time. And I actually love it now. It felt like an Electronic track originally. But it's definitely New Order. This band continues to excite me and I look forward to another full album from them. And one day, another tour.
