Coldplay -- "Everyday Life"

They just released a double album and probably nobody noticed.

Except for SNL they did not do a lot to promote it.

Chris Martin can’t be too happy right now. Coldplay’s new album has turned into a sales disaster. The reasons are unclear.

Coldplay appeared on “Saturday Night Live” two weeks ago and seemed to have a success. There were predictions of sales of 80,000 for the album’s debut week, including streaming.

But “Everyday Life” sold just 48,000 including streaming. Pure sales were a shockingly low 36,000.

This past week, the album dropped 70% and sold just 15,000 copies. Pure sales were just 9,288.

Just before “Everyday Life” was released, Martin announced the band would not tour behind it because of “environment concerns.” WTF? That was like admitting the album was bad, and that no one would come to a show.

I gave it a listen on the first day. I liked 2-3 of the tracks, but found the album as a whole very disjointed and eclectic.

Not something I’d be apt to revisit or purchase.

I think its way of promotion that helps to engage more listeners. I think its bad to generate quality music. By the way, listeners love this album of the British rock band.

I really enjoyed everything they did pre Mylo Xyloto. But after that, their failure to evolve really became evident with all the music they released. You can only hear so much piano arena rock and remain interested imho.

Church the second song is probably the best song on the album and Everyday Life and everything in between is forgettable and seems like a bunch of sound samples.

Established bands used to get away with releasing sub-par albums and selling them to their fans. Now that everyone can hear an album before purchase, it's harder passing off so-so material to your fans.

Finally got around to listening to this and I'd agree with the assessment above. It's not a good album. It's like they tried getting faux politically charged, watched BBC for 96 hours straight and then tried their best Radiohead impression. Half the songs aren't even songs, most of the choruses are MIA and I'm not sure why this is considered a double album.
