Oh fuck, that really sucks. 
He created some great music, but the poor guy had some really tough times. The documentary about him "You're Gonna Miss Me" was really depressing to watch.

That's so sad to hear. I just started listening to him about a year ago. Really talented guy.

The man lived through hell most of his life. He was legally tortured in an insane asylum for years. Despite that, even after the Elevators disbanded, he made a bunch of great records throughout the years. The Evil One, Don't Slander Me and True Love Cast Out All Evil are all superb. At least he isn't suffering anymore. RIP.
