Beck has released a new song, “Saw Lightning,” that will appear on an upcoming new album called Hyperspace that’s out “at an as yet undetermined point in the space time continuum,” according to a press release. Hyperspace will be the follow-up to 2017’s Colors, which won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album.

“Saw Lightning” was co-written and co-produced by Beck and Pharrell Williams, who plays drums and keyboards and provides some additional backing vocals.

Though it’s the first single from Hyperspace, Beck has released two other new tracks this year: “Tarantula,” a Colourbox cover that was part of the Roma soundtrack, and “Super Cool,” which featured Robyn and the Lonely Island and was featured on The Lego Movie 2 soundtrack.

Believe it or not, while I knew his early singles, my first Beck record I picked up was Mutations. A weird entry point but it worked for me.

I am still waiting for something similar to Midnite Vultures. That may be the only thing that would get me interested in Beck again.

Beck is releasing his new album Hyperspace on November 22. It follows 2017’s Colors. The new record is led by “Saw Lightning,” “Hyperlife,” “Uneventful Days,” and “Dark Places.”

Saw Lightning has got a ton of airplay on our best local station for new music and they even played the Paisley Park Session, too.

We haven't seen him on tour in 10 years so I'm hopeful it works out to see him for this next one with this record.

So much for the tour, pandemic.

I've been listening to this one a lot, lately. This, Morning Phase, and Colors are all working for me right now. There's a thoughtful, reflective quality to Hyperspace that is coming through loud and clear to me right now, particularly the slow songs and ballads. Chemical is a lovely song, and Stratosphere is speaking my language, these days.

Hyperspace has been on my rotation since it came out, love it. Some remixed tracks were released a month or so ago, and that's coming out on vinyl in December.
