Sorta strange, anyone know why this album or a song on it is getting traction today?

Is I’ve seen Fire and I’ve Seen Rain on it?

According to Wikipedia it suddenly reentered the album charts in August 2012. What made it spike then?

Taylor Swift’s album is #4. Could it be the result of accidental searches?

Fire and Rain is on it, was it used in something recently?

We Are Never Getting Back Together was released as a single in August 2012.

Amazing.

Got anymore problems you need me to solve today? It’s only 10:00 am here, but I think I’m done. Time to crack a cold one.

It's called "Fire & Rain"

And I think the charting is due to a Fallon bump from a recent Tonight Show appearance late last week.

So what does that have to do with it being bumped today?

Takes a few days of social media sharing to see a bump, maybe?

Honestly, I have no idea why anyone would buy any catalog releases when streaming music services are anywhere.

Re: Why is James Taylor's Greatest Hits Vol 1 from 1976, in iTunes top 5 albums today?

Lemme try this again.

People are searching by album title, but they are typing in the name “Taylor Swift”.

“Taylor Swift” is not the title of any album ever released.

“James Taylor’s Greatest Hits Vol 1” is the biggest selling album of all time with the word “Taylor” in the title.

Taylor Swifts latest album is #4. James Taylor Greatest Hits is #5

James Taylor Greatest Hits spiked up to 15 in the billboard charts in August of 2012. That same month Taylor Swift dropped a huge single We Are Never Getting Back Together.

The near total blankness of James Taylor’s album may also be a contributing factor. In a small thumbnail on a small phone it just looks like white nothing.

It appears the list is "purchased" recordings. You think that many people are purchasing because they didn't pay attention before the bought it?

Taylor Swift was named after James Taylor, so it at least feels appropriate for an accidental purchase.

I can’t find a better explanation.

Reddit also wants to know...

https://www.reddit.com/r/OutOfTheLoo...greatest_hits/

One of the comments mentions, on the right day, it isn't that hard to crack the top 10... less than a 100 copies sold.

Then why the album, and not just the song. But it could be the reason

That could be it. That’s why Dark Side of the Moon and Bob Marley Legend and stuff lingered on the top 100 album charts for a decade. But #5 is pretty high.

Maybe it lends credence to my theory. If it only takes 100 dumb accidental purchases of the wrong album each day...

I received an e-mail today that a concert of his which was recently postponed near me was rescheduled for a date in 2021. Maybe a connection of sorts?

It’s also possible that their algorithm might build up a few days’ worth of data rather than only the last hour or the last 24 hours or whatever. I could totally see a white supremacist or other cause doing a coordinated buy just to spike something into visibility.

Or the 11x platinum James Taylor’s Greatest Hits still comes up first.

He's been on this season of the Voice, and they said he had a new EP coming out soon, maybe that has something to do with it.
