This album is actually pretty damn good. If you are expecting a 45 year old Eminem to just be Shady then go ahead and be disappointed. Need Me is probably my favorite song. I would have just structured it a bit differently where Pink's singing and Em's verse would have been split up to work each other up to a crescendo of emotion. Other than that, the album is pretty good. People need to underStand that you are not going to get the 25 or so year old Slim Shady from a 45 year old grown man. If that's what you are expecting then you are out of luck. If you have childen and can listen to Arose without feeling emotional within then there is something wrong with you. This is definitely Eminem making his return. These songs are a continuation of his tracks on Shady XV and I am fine with that.

Listened to most of this last night and wasn't a fan. I like In Your Head but that's more cause of Garbage than Em...

I must not be a very discerning hip hop fan because this sounds just like the last 3-4 albums to me, no better or worse. It’s a great album to listen to while working out. |

I have to be honest, I didn't like this much at first, but it's grown on me (as a big fan I gave it more of a chance than I would if it was someone I wasn't in to). The last sequence of 3 songs really works well for me, and I'll have to give the Pink song a better listen based on dsa shea's enthusiasm.
I do think that in a way it sounds like an outtakes album of songs from his last 3 albums along with a couple new ones to address Trump and so on, although I know it's not. |
Re: EMINEM: Revival - 12/15/17
The first couple of times I listened to this, it was mostly on in the background while I did other things, and I was not impressed. This morning I had it on during my drive in to work, and songs I didn't really care for started to come around on me. I still hate Walk on Water, but Believe and Untouchable were better and I really like Remind Me (I'm a sucker for samples featuring 80s music). Bad Husband didn't do much for me still. I'll listen to the rest on the way home, but so far I went from hating it to not... LOL

Re: EMINEM: Revival - 12/15/17
I wound up buying this last night. Newbury Comics had it for $11.88, so it wasn't very far removed from my ideal price point.
I didn't hate it upon first listen, but it definitely wasn't what I was hoping for. To me, it feels like he was too focused on those big choruses and the lyrics became secondary. It felt like a standard rap cd and nothing he said lyrically really pulled me in. I have been a fan since before The Slim Shady LP came out. I know that we all age and evolve as people, but the new Em just doesn't connect with me. I'll never forget the first time I listened to The Marshall Mathers LP and how I felt while listening for the first time. Revival quickly just became background noise in the car. I'm gonna leave it in the cd player in the car for a few more spins to see if anything grows on me eventually. |
Re: EMINEM: Revival - 12/15/17
been listening to this. really uninspired. lyrics seemed tired and reused. some of the other artists and choruses are good. i was looking forward to Pink, but that was nothing great. i re-listening on shuffle now and hope to like it more, but who knows. little disappointed and the genericness of it. seems lazy lyrics.
is this is last album as he raps about? |
