Re: Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2018 nominees

I'd probably vote for
The Cars
Kate Bush
Sister Rosetta Tharp

Then I'd write in
X and
The Fall (which will never happen, but I'd put them anyway)

Stunned that Radiohead didn't get in on the first ballot.

At least we made CrabBisqueFan's day! Congrats!

No Judas Priest. No band inducted was more influential than Judas Priest. Priest helped define an entire genre in it's infancy. And they had multiple Gold and Platinum albums and arena headlining tours. Influential and successful and considered one of the best at what they did. What more does it take?

And, seriously, Judas Priest has been putting out albums for 43 years. They meet every reasonable criteria for induction.

Glad to see Mark Knopfler get his due. A humble bloke with incredible talent and skill. Long overdue.

I'm genuinely surprised Radiohead wasn't inducted. I was convinced that was a done deal.

I wonder who the RRHoF is going to get to perform Nina Simone's songs after the speech. Knowing them it'll probably be Dave Grohl.

Judas priest,Radiohead,Kraftwert,Joy Division,New Order= not in

But freaking The Cars and Dire Straits are in?? Can they finally just put American Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame on the name

Judas Priest=Most influential metal band of all time
Radiohead=Most influential and innovative rock act over the last 20 years
Joy Division=Most influential post punk artist of all time with hundreds of bands influenced by their work
Kraftwerk=Laid the groundwork for Electronic Music and basically modern 20th century pop
New Order=They are the most influential and acclaimed band who laid the groundwork of merging rock and electronic music

Dire Straits=Had a couple hits on American white rock radio in the 80's

American? Like Dire Straits and the Moody Blues?

But I am shocked Dire Straits got in before Judas Priest and Kraftwerk.

I've come to the point of let them all in. Anymore I find myself just as cool with someone like Foghat or Molly Hatchet as anyone else.

Eventually, that will happen.

Mungo Jerry & Lipps, Inc. have their acceptance speeches ready.

When they let Cheap Trick in that opened the flood gates.

Re: Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2018 nominees

The bands/artists who I think are most overdue to get in...

Ronnie James Dio
Jethro Tull (they had #1 albums and sold out arena tours - and were one of the most musically sophisticated bands of that era)
Judas Priest
Iron Maiden
The Cure
The Smiths
Depeche Mode

The last three there I don't particularly like, but I recognize their greatness within their sub genre and their success and influence.

I would add Emerson Lake and Palmer to that list. They basically owned FM radio from the early to mid-1970s.

All of those should be in by now. Far too many more recent, less worthy bands, leapfrogged some of the biggest legends in music. I'm certainly a fan of Dire Straits and Bon Jovi (as examples) but no way they should have been in before those on that list.

It's not the hall of Influential and Laid the Groundwork for. If it was, you'd win.

Actually, it is.

The Sex Pistols, for example, got in solely because of their infuence and the groundwork they laid for Punk.

Influence and impact are two of the biggest criteria for artists to get in. Success is important, but not absolutely required.
