U2 Songs of Experience

Looks like the Promo Tour is about to begin...

The Blackout (above) arrives Aug 30, and "The Best Thing" (first single) arrives Sept 6.

Album rumored to be released Dec 1.

They are still wrapping up the 30th Anniversary of The Joshua Tree tour and will be touring that until October. Album out end of the year, and they go back to arenas (using the I&E staging) sometime next year (Spring?)

What exactly is The Blackout?

Sounds like it's their first single?

They're going to be touring October? Awesome! I've been waiting more than 30 years to hear "Rejoice" live! :)

No, it says the first single is "You're The Best Thing"

If SoE is as good as SoI, I will definitely see them again on that tour. Wish I had seen the SoI tour.

You know I am a big fan. That tour was right up there with their best.

That's what I've heard across the board, so bummed I missed it. Songs of Innocence is also in my personal top five U2 albums, so I'm doubly bummed.

Aw, you are correct. "The Blackout" appears to be one of them there "promo singles" artists like to do now--the single they put out for the fans with no expectations of it being a hit.

Heard that one yesterday and it's pretty awful.

Listened to ‘You’re The Best Thing About Me’ today and thought it was alright.

Did they peak with All That You Can Leave Behind and How to Dismantle at Atomic Bomb?

Their last 2 albums did not produce a lot of hit singles though I still like some of the songs on those records.

I thought Songs of Innocence was way better than either ATYCLB or HTDAAB.

IMO, they peaked with Achtung Baby.

Agreed on all counts.

Yes that is a great song and don't understand why anybody can not like it.

Re: U2 Songs of Experience

They peaked with Zooropa but Songs of Innocence was a welcome return to form for them.

Re: U2 Songs of Experience

I am the outlier here. I think Songs Of Innocence is down there at the bottom of their catalog along with Zooropa and Pop. I do not like the new single very much.

I think All That You Can't Leave Behind is one of their better albums.

Setzer 09-12-17 01:36 PM

Re: U2 Songs of Experience

I thought Songs of Innocence was ok, not great. There were a couple tracks I really enjoyed like "The Miracle" and "Iris". I thought it was definitely a better album than "No Line on the Horizon". I also thought HTDAAB was pretty good but imo their last truly great album was All That You Can't Leave Behind. None of their albums released since have come close to it.

I love Pop. For me, U2 are better when they're a little weird and unfocused. October, Unforgettable Fire, Zooropa, Pop, parts of others.

I find a lot of their later, major-key songs to be a bit bland and unmemorable.

Greg MacGuffin 09-12-17 08:43 PM

Re: U2 Songs of Experience

I also think there are a lot of great songs on Pop. To me it sounds a little unfinished, but it's a really strong record overall.

slop101 09-15-17 02:41 PM

Re: U2 Songs of Experience

You're all insane. Pop is their worst record by far!

U2 EXPERIENCE + INNOCENCE TOUR
In May the band are back out on the road when the eXPERIENCE + iNNOCENCE Tour opens in North America. #U2eiTour

Just as the new album Songs of Experience is a companion to 2014’s Songs of Innocence, the eXPERIENCE + iNNOCENCE Tour is a sequel to 2015's iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE Tour which saw 'U2 reinvent the arena show’ (Rolling Stone) and was named the #1 concert of 2015 by The New York Times.

Tickets for the eXPERIENCE + iNNOCENCE Tour go on general sale on November 20th with presales opening on Tuesday November 14th. In a new development, designed to keep tickets out of the hands of scalpers and bots, this time around ALL North American ticket sales go exclusively through the Verified Fan platform. (Please Note: Every ticket purchased will include one (1) copy of U2’s new album, "Songs of Experience”, to be released December 1, 2017. Be on the lookout for a separate email with instructions around how you can redeem your album(s). Prior to December 1, you will have the opportunity to pre-order one CD per ticket purchased. Once the digital album becomes available on December 1, fans will have the choice of either a CD or digital album at the time of redemption. One album per ticket. US/Canadian residents only. Not valid for Fan to Fan Resale.)

As usual, U2.com subscribers will be first in line with their own exclusive window when presales open - but U2.com subscribers must register as Verified Fans by November 10th. Read the updated FAQs.

June 21st in Boston. Very excited since I wasn't able to make the JT2017 show. Hopefully I will have better luck with the presale than I did on the JT one.

If they add another night or two at Boston Garden, I'll look to go. That's what they did on the 2015 tour--the first night sold out and they added more shows, and I got a ticket for $45 for the third night. I mostly see smaller bands at clubs, and usually turn my nose up at "stadium rock," but I must admit it was a fantastic show.

Carter Allen said there could be up to 4 nights in Boston based on demand. I would expect at least a second show. I can't remember the last time they did an arena show in this area with only 1 date.

If you don't know who he is, he is a longtime Boston DJ who I believe was the first DJ in America to play U2 and actually does know the band or at least people on Team U2. He has been thanked by them multiple times in the past and he has written 2 books on U2.

Yeah, sadly that's not a very good song. Seems like U2's best studio work is long behind them. And they are now only a serviceable touring band. Just like Depeche Mode. At least U2 still put on a great show. "Achtung Baby" was their last great album IMO. "ATYCLB" and "HTDAB" were decent. Everything after that? Not good. And I think "Songs of Innocence" is probably their worst effort to date.

I love that song and it is better than what is popular these days (Imagine Dragons cough).

While I am not while about any of the 5 songs that have been shared, I disagree about SOI, that is probably their strongest since AB.

Re: U2 Songs of Experience

Yeah, didn't care for that song. Another one of the bland, mid-tempo, major key songs that they've gotten so comfortable with.

Re: U2 Songs of Experience

Well big shocker here. Part of the Innocence group due to letting my sub lapse due to a move end of last year after having been a member for over 20 years and just like JT I am unable to get tickets to a show. The same exact seats I sat in for the IE show in 2015 for like $125 are now $290 which is outrageous. Of course ZERO GA seats at all. Biggest crock of shit ever. Worst fan club experience I have ever experienced in my 30+ years of belonging to various fan clubs.

Chrisedge 11-15-17 12:12 PM

Re: U2 Songs of Experience

I had no issues getting GA, seats were a bit high (priced and location for price). I will be trying for 3 total shows.

Unclejosh 11-15-17 12:17 PM

Re: U2 Songs of Experience

They were zero at the Boston show when i tried this morning.
