Re: George Michael Dead 12/25/16

When I was growing up, he truly was every little hungry schoolgirl's pride and joy. For those of us who were "too cool" for pop, it was easy to write him off as a shallow artist. But you know what? When I got a little older and was able to listen without prejudice (pun definitely intended), I came to appreciate that he was an extremely talented musician. And in hindsight, I think Faith is one of the all time great albums, and his catalog with Wham! and as a solo artist outstanding.

The world sucks just a little bit more without him in it.

5:45 PM PT -- Sources directly connected with George and in a position to know tell us the singer died from heart failure. We're told he was sleeping throughout the episode and suffered no pain.

You think these are bad. CNN had a huge header with his picture that reads:

I thought they were funny. Of course, if you knew him personally - then I apologise for laughing and I'm sorry for your loss.

Also, it's not like people will magically stop dying once once it's 2017.
Sure we've had a decent amount of premature celebrity deaths this year - but the volume of deaths will get worse overall. There was a huge influx of entertainers in the 60's and 70's and they're getting old now.

My father passed away 3 weeks ago, so 2016 sucked for me on a personal level.

I remember Everything She Wants and Careless Whisper from back in the Wham days, always thought George Michael had an outstanding voice. RIP George.

Re: George Michael Dead 12/25/16

The past couple decades had a large number of entertainers die simply because we, at our age, grew up watching and listening to them and they were older than us to begin with. So naturally it's going to seem like an influx of deaths.

I don't think it not only the number of deaths but the number of celebrity heavyweights.

This is the only George Michael CD that I own.

and it's a great album with hours of his classics. Sad to read about his passing. So many celebrities and entertainers dying prematurely this year. It's tragic, but I know it's part of life.

I used to open with a Judy Garland song for about 30secs (Somewhere Over The Rainbow was always popular but I sometimes switched it every 4 weekends), then would overlay an instrumental of Monkey (with some whip references and monkey sounds I had to record then hook up to the mixer), outro-ing to I Want Your Sex.

Mostly tailored to the crowd I was entertaining, and after completing my mission of a few hours to four hours of getting everyone extremely wet, I went home smelling like cig smoke and cheap musky-scented smoke that was all the rage back then (early to mid 90s) with new equipment being released making it easier.

I have to say, back then, I wasn't as critical of society or the world. We all had fun. It was straight, bisexual, gay, and whoever else, just dancing off our troubles and by the end of night, everyone was happy, I was haggard-happy, and the world got along another night to live for the next day. And that next day was going to be facing whatever realities we all faced. But those one and even two nights of dancing on the weekends, we all came together and didn't even need to talk.

I just mixed, and they just danced.

The world has sure changed since then. Sure, we all had opposing viewpoints but not like today.

I think we need more nightclubs in America, playing the songs of a few decades ago. This was true music. Talent. Sharp, cutting lyrics that defined who you were. Exceptional performances. Amazing people.

Gonna be dusting off some older mixes this week, in memory of George.

One on one.

Deadpool will not be happy.

MTV Classic (VH1 Classic) is playing his videos non-stop.

I read he suffered through depression when his mom and lover died around the same period a couple of years ago. Hope he was feeling ok before he passed.

Re: George Michael Dead 12/25/16

His music was inescapable during the time I was a young teen and while there was much derision at the time about his pretty boy butt wiggling, many of the tunes were really great.

I must say that he did have one really big hit called Monkey or Monkey on Your Back or something that is just painfully bad. Never understood how something that sounds like a mistake could be such a big hit.

Great career overview album... I have it, too, and really like it. My only complaint is that it has a half edited version of "I Want Your Sex" (and not even the better half). Which is very disappointing as it's one of his most iconic songs.

RIP George... he really was an excellent pop artist. And one of those rare few who much improved over the course of his career, from the early cringe worthy bubblegum stuff with Wham, to actually really good quality pop later in his career. He deserves some respect.

I was a casual fan. His contribution to pop music was huge. Very sad.

Re: George Michael Dead 12/25/16

TMZ posted pics of what he looked like a couple of months and looks like he gained a shitload of weight - he looked to be at least 300 - 350 lbs.

Jesus, I no doctor, but I'm guessing the weight issues probably contributed to his heart problems.
